Get ready for some good vibrations! Music legends The Beach Boys are heading to Halifax for a massive outdoor show in the summer of 2026. They're bringing their iconic sound to The Piece Hall as part of their Sounds of Summer Tour, and it’s all happening on Wednesday, 17 June. And as if that wasn't enough, they’re bringing along some very special guests: the brilliant 10cc. This is a big one, celebrating 60 years of one of the most famous albums ever, Pet Sounds.

Good vibrations coming to Halifax

Imagine this: a warm summer evening, a stunning historic venue, and the sounds of a band that basically invented the soundtrack to summer. That's what’s on the cards when The Beach Boys land in Halifax. The band, who have become a true American icon, are bringing their much-loved music to the UK. This isn't just any old gig; it's a celebration of their groundbreaking album, Pet Sounds, which turns 60 in 2026. The show is part of the TK Maxx presents Live at The Piece Hall series, a collection of summer concerts that brings huge names to Yorkshire.

For over 60 years, The Beach Boys have been the sound of the California lifestyle. Think surfing, sunshine, and classic cars. Since their first hit, 'Surfin'', they’ve released a load of chart-toppers that everyone, from your gran to your younger cousin, probably knows. Songs like 'Good Vibrations', 'Wouldn’t It Be Nice', and 'California Girls' are timeless. They’ve sold over 100 million records, which is a staggering number, and have a trophy cabinet full of awards. What's really amazing is that they’ve played more concerts than any other major rock band in history. This upcoming concert is another chance to see this legendary band live.

Who are The Beach Boys? A quick recap

If the name The Beach Boys sounds familiar but you can't quite place them, think of them as the original pop superstars. They captured a feeling of eternal youth and fun that has lasted for decades. Led today by co-founder Mike Love and longtime member Bruce Johnston, the band continues to share its legacy around the world. Their influence is massive – so much so that a brand new documentary about their incredible journey was released on Disney+ in 2024, packed with unseen footage and interviews. A big TV special in 2023 saw modern stars like John Legend and Weezer performing their hits. This is a band that is still very much in the spotlight. This unique tour stop in Halifax is a brilliant opportunity to see why they are such a big deal.

And the very special guests: 10cc

Joining The Beach Boys are the equally legendary 10cc. Hailing from Stockport, these art-rock pioneers are known for being incredibly creative and influential. They had a string of massive hits in the 70s, including three chart-toppers: 'Rubber Bullets', 'I’m Not In Love', and 'Dreadlock Holiday'. That last one has the famous line, "I don't like cricket – I love it!" which became a bit of an anthem for the sport.

Here’s a fun fact: Graham Gouldman, one of the founders of 10cc, only went to his first-ever cricket match earlier this year, decades after writing the song! It just goes to show you don't need to be a sports fanatic to write a classic tune. For his services to music, he was recently awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours List, which is a huge honour. Having 10cc as special guests makes this concert a double-header of musical genius.

The venue: Halifax’s amazing Piece Hall

The concert will take place at The Piece Hall in Halifax, which is a spectacular setting. It’s a Grade I listed building and the only one of its kind left in the world. Originally opened way back in 1779 for trading cloth, it’s now a stunning open-air courtyard filled with independent shops, cool restaurants, and buzzing bars. It’s a place that brings the local community together for amazing cultural events. Hosting this huge gig is a massive moment for the venue and the town. It’s a chance to see a world-famous band in a truly unique and historic place.

Nicky Chance-Thompson MBE DL, CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, shared some thoughts on the announcement:

"How amazing to be welcoming more global superstars to Calderdale. And is there a more iconic summer sound than The Beach Boys? What a privilege to help them mark six decades of their hugely influential album Pet Sounds, frequently ranked as one of the best of all time. I’m so pleased we’re able to host these legends, as a slice of pure pop history is celebrated in our world class heritage site.”
