|Get ready for some massive news. The incredible Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald is heading to Halifax as a key stop on her massive 2026 European tour. She’s set to light up the stage at The Piece Hall on Thursday, 18th June, and she's not coming alone. This is going to be a night packed with amazing live music, bringing together some seriously talented artists for an unforgettable summer evening.

So, who is Amy Macdonald?
For anyone who doesn't know, Amy Macdonald is a proper music superstar. She shot to fame when she was just 18. Back then, most new artists were getting noticed on MySpace, but she did it the old-fashioned way by sending a demo to a production company. It worked. Her first album, ‘This Is The Life’, went straight to Number One. It was one of the biggest-selling albums of 2008, with timeless hits like the title track and ‘Mr Rock & Roll’.
The song ‘This Is The Life’ has had a massive comeback recently, all thanks to viral clips on TikTok. Suddenly, a whole new generation of fans are discovering her sound. But for her long-time supporters, this is no surprise. She’s sold over 12 million records and has more than a billion streams on platforms like Spotify. That’s a huge number of people listening to her music. Throughout her career, she's released a bunch of top-ten albums, sold out tours all over the world, and proven herself as one of the best live performers in the UK.
Her new album, ‘Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’, shows she's still at the top of her game. Speaking about her amazing career, Amy shared her thoughts:
“I feel very lucky to be in the place I am now. I’ve got this career, good friends, my family, and people still seem to want to hear my music, which is great. There’s a realness in me, something raw – honestly, I’m winging it most of the time.”
And who is joining her on stage?

A great headliner needs great support, and this gig has it sorted. Joining Amy Macdonald in Halifax will be two brilliant acts. First up are the legendary Merseyside group, The Coral. These guys are pioneers of what’s called 'psych-pop' – basically, it’s pop music with a cool, slightly weird, and wonderful twist. Even if the name doesn't ring a bell, the song ‘Dreaming of You’ probably will. It’s one of those tunes that everyone knows and loves. But they’re not just a band with one big hit. Their newer stuff, like the album ‘Sea of Mirrors’, is really cinematic and shows how they keep creating fresh sounds. Their live shows are full of energy, classic songs, and catchy hooks that have kept fans coming back for years.

Opening the whole night is a really exciting collaboration: Nathan Evans & The Saint PHNX Band. People might remember Nathan Evans from his sea shanty fame on TikTok, but he's teamed up with the amazing rock duo Saint PHNX to create a new folk-pop band. They’ve already had a Top 40 hit in the UK with 'Heather On The Hill' and have been selling out shows across Europe. They have a debut collaborative album on the way, so this is a chance to see them right at the start of something big. It’s always brilliant to catch new artists on the rise. You can check out their stuff on YouTube or Instagram before the show.
What’s so special about the Piece Hall?
The venue for a gig can make a huge difference, and The Piece Hall in Halifax is something else. It’s not just any old concert hall. It’s a huge, beautiful Grade I listed building, which means it’s historically super important. It first opened way back in 1779 as a place to trade cloth. It’s actually the only Georgian cloth hall left in the world. These days, it’s been transformed into an amazing spot with independent shops, cool restaurants, and a massive open-air courtyard that’s perfect for live music. It feels more like a grand European piazza than a town square in Yorkshire. Watching a gig here, under the stars, surrounded by all that history, is a pretty magical experience. Nicky Chance-Thompson, the CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, is clearly excited about the booking. She said:
“Amy is such a fabulous addition to next year’s line-up and her captivating, authentic style is going to be a great fit for our beautiful venue. There’s something about the history, vistas and splendour of this place that showcases singer songwriters in such an exceptional way.” She added, “Amy has continued to garner fans across the years and I can’t wait to see hear those beautiful melodies flowing out across the Courtyard.”
