Welcome to Yorkshire

|Ever found yourself scrolling through pictures of Oktoberfest in Munich, dreaming of raising a giant beer stein but shuddering at the thought of flights, hotels, and massive crowds? Let’s be honest, getting the whole group chat to agree on a weekend away, let alone a trip to Germany, is a mission in itself. Well, this autumn, the hassle is officially off the table. Marston’s is bringing the world’s most famous beer festival right to your doorstep, transforming over 400 of its pubs into mini versions of Munich from the 12th of September to the 5th of October. That means all the fun, food, and festivities, without any of the faff.
What's the big deal with Oktoberfest anyway?
For anyone who isn’t quite sure, Oktoberfest is a massive festival held every year in Munich, Germany. It’s basically the biggest party on Earth dedicated to beer, food, and having a good time. People come from all over the world to sit at long wooden tables, sing along to bands, and enjoy traditional Bavarian culture. The beer is served in enormous glass mugs called a stein, and the atmosphere is electric. Marston's is aiming to capture that exact energy, dropping the full authentic experience into local pubs across the country. These celebrations are all about bringing people together for a proper laugh, with plenty of good beer and even better food. Forget the long travel and the endless queues; the best bits are coming to you.
Your local pub is turning into a mini Munich
Imagine walking into your local and instead of the usual Sunday quiz night posters, it’s decked out in blue and white bunting with the sound of cheerful music in the air. That’s the plan. Marston’s is creating proper bierkeller vibes across its pubs for three whole weeks. To make it a truly authentic experience, they’ve partnered with Löwenbräu, one of the official breweries of the Munich Oktoberfest. This isn’t just some German-style lager; it’s the real deal, brewed within the city walls of Munich. So when you’re handed a massive two-pint stein of beer, you know you’re getting a proper taste of the festival. And it’s not just about the beer. The drinks line-up also includes Jägermeister and Licor 43, so there will be plenty of Jäger shots and bombs, plus 'baby beer shots' served in their own tiny steins to keep the party going.

It's not a party without proper German grub
A big part of any festival is the food, and these Oktoberfest celebrations are no exception. Marston’s is rolling out a special, limited edition German food menu that’s packed with classics. You won’t just be getting a packet of crisps with your pint. This is proper, hearty, authentic German food designed to be enjoyed with a cold beer. Whether you fancy a snack or a full-on feast, there’s something for everyone.
- Giant Pretzels: The classic Oktoberfest snack, perfect for dipping.
- Frankfurters & Currywurst: You can't have a German festival without sausages. The currywurst comes smothered in a rich, tangy sauce.
- Oktoberfeast Platter: For those who want it all, this platter is loaded with a Frankfurter, southern-fried chicken fillet, bacon chop, a giant pretzel, sauerkraut, and a gooey cheese fondue sauce for dipping. It’s a meal and then some.
- Black Forest Gateau: A rich, chocolatey, cherry-filled dessert to finish things off.
This menu is designed to give everyone an authentic taste of the celebrations, from the savoury currywurst to the sweet Black Forest gateau. The cheese fondue sauce alone is probably worth the trip.
Get ready for some serious festivities
Beyond the food and beer, the events are what will really bring the festival to life. This isn’t just about putting up a few decorations; it’s a full programme of entertainment. Across the three weeks of festivities, participating pubs will be hosting special themed nights. Mark your calendars for Saturday the 13th of September and Saturday the 27th of September, which are being dubbed 'Wunderbar Saturdays'. These nights promise to be the highlight of the celebrations, with high-energy live music and a proper party atmosphere. Everyone is encouraged to get into the spirit with fancy dress – think lederhosen and dirndls, but a checked shirt will probably do just fine!
The activities planned are where the real fun lies. There will be quizzes, but the main events are a bit more… unique. Get ready for some classic German-inspired fun, including fiercely competitive stein holding competitions. It sounds easy, but holding a two-pint stein full of beer at arm's length is tougher than it looks. And for the brave, there will even be yodel-offs. It’s the perfect chance to discover a hidden talent you never knew you had. It’s all about creating memorable, fun events that get everyone involved.
What the people behind the plan are saying
Bringing such a huge series of events to life takes a lot of planning. Claire Robertson, the Director of Operations at Marston’s, shared her thoughts on why they decided to bring Munich to the masses this autumn. It’s clear the goal was to make something special accessible to everyone, taking the stress out of planning a big group event.
“We know how hard it is to take holiday plans from group chat to reality so this autumn, we’re saving people the trouble and bringing one of the world’s most iconic festivals to their local pub. We’re so excited to be hosting the UK’s biggest Oktoberfest celebrations at over 400 Marston’s pubs and giving our customers the chance to enjoy authentic German food, Löwenbräu beer that’s been brewed within the walls of Munich and some fantastic entertainment, all without the hassle of planning and travelling - that’s time better spent at the pub!”
It’s about delivering an authentic experience without the price tag or planning headaches of international travel. From the specific beer to the menu and the live music, every detail has been considered to make these celebrations feel special.
