Welcome to Yorkshire

|In a heartwarming reunion, two Scottish polar bear brothers, Brodie and Hamish, have been enjoying their time together at the award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park, just in time for Scotland’s match against Morocco. The playful pair has been spotted frolicking in the Yorkshire sunshine, bringing smiles to visitors and fans alike.
Brotherly Love in Yorkshire
Four-year-old Brodie and his older brother, eight-year-old Hamish, have become popular attractions at the park. Dr Charlotte MacDonald, the Director of Animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, expressed her delight at seeing the brothers interact. “It’s lovely to see the two interacting. Both have goofy personalities and love wrestling with each other,” she noted. Their playful antics have been a joy for guests, who can watch them roam in their specially designed habitat.

Hamish has quite a fascinating backstory. He was born at the Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland, making headlines as the first polar bear cub born in the UK in 25 years. After spending his early years in Scotland, he relocated to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park's Project Polar reserve in late 2020. Since his arrival, Hamish has grown significantly and is now one of the largest polar bears in Europe, weighing in at an impressive 792 kg. The Project Polar area is a massive 10-acre space that mimics the Arctic tundra, complete with open spaces, hills, and lakes. This environment allows the bears to roam freely and engage in natural behaviours, providing an enriching experience for both the animals and park visitors.
Brodie’s Extended Holiday
Brodie is currently on an extended holiday at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park while upgrades are being made to his home back in Scotland. He made the 260-mile journey south in December 2025. During this time, he has been enjoying the company of his brother, creating a special bond that has captivated many visitors.
A Place for Conservation
Yorkshire Wildlife Park is not just about showcasing these magnificent creatures; it is deeply committed to conservation and animal welfare. The park offers a unique walk-through experience that allows visitors to come almost face-to-face with some of the world’s most beautiful and endangered species, including not only polar bears but also black rhinos, giraffes, and African painted dogs. The park’s focus on animal welfare means that every effort is made to ensure that the animals live in environments that closely resemble their natural habitats. This approach not only benefits the animals but also educates the public about the importance of conservation.
Support for Scotland
As Scotland prepares to face Morocco, the polar bear duo has become unlikely supporters of their national team. Dr MacDonald shared a message of encouragement: “Good luck to Scotland playing Morocco tonight! We have two of your biggest supporters backing you at the Park.”
Visitor Experience
Visitors to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park can enjoy a variety of attractions beyond just the polar bears. The park features The Hex Wildlife Hotel and The Yorkshire Hive, which is a shopping, dining, and entertainment village. This makes it a fantastic day out for families looking to experience wildlife in a fun and educational environment.
