First time in Filey, looking for a pub to get some nice food and a drink. We saw that The Buccaneer got good reviews, so headed that way. I was immediately on a backfoot when 2 dodgy looking characters were smoking outside, but nonetheless decided to go in. The pub is upstairs, via a worn and shabby staircase. The interior was dated and like a social club! However, we were greeted immediately by a warm and friendly lady behind the bar, two customer at the bar, but an empty room. Seeing how empty it was we decided to forgo the food and just have a drink. Lady serving us was so nice, having a laugh and joke as she served us. We took our drinks to a table - everything seemed clean (including the loos). We sat enjoying our drinks, looking at the drinks menu, food menu and just relaxing. Things went pear shaped when a male staff member (maybe the landlord) - rather huge bullish looking fella with a bald head came in and immediately started to bully and berate the lady who has serves us. She tried to talk it off telling him to leave it be, and she would discuss things when he was calm, he replied "this is me calm". Intimidating behaviour ensued and the lady threatened to leave. He continued with his aggressive behaviour for us to hear, leaving us very uncomfortable. It ended up with the lady in tears leaving, apologising to us and the two other customers as she left. The man (Gary), continued to complain and moan about this lady to another lady propping up the bar who seemingly agreed with whatever he was saying. We're a couple in our 50's and just couldn't be doing with this kind of drama, drank up and left. My husband (in his usual polite manner) shouted his thanks as we left which the delightful Gary ignored. Im genuinely shocked at the good reviews this pub has, it was just awful. Maybe other customers are not witness to this kind of behaviour. If Gary writes a book, it should be called 'how to lose customers, staff and win at bullying'.

What a lovely restaurant. The food was delicious, service, fantastic and staff really friendly. Worth a visit of only for the homemade shortbread you get with your coffee. Melt in your mouth heaven. WELL worth a visit.

Me and my partner had a sunday dinner to take out i called first to make sure this was ok first. The gentleman on the bar answered and was very friendly and helpful. The food was glorious and there was more than enough for two of us the meat was cooked perfect and there was lots of veg to choose from. Would definitely recommend πŸ‘Œ

A large, quiet, just out of the center pub There's stairs to get up, but worth the climb. Not sure if there's a lift? Nice friendly staff and sensible prices for drinks. Pool table. We'll come along next time we're here.

Strange set up. Pub empty but had to book our meal 50minutes in advance. But it arrived bang on time and most if it tasty. Chips were chewy but fish was spot on.
