•On Remembrance Day, Yorkshire honours the courage and sacrifice of those who served in the armed forces. Across towns and cities, special services, parades, and ceremonies offer everyone an opportunity to pause, reflect, and pay respects. From grand cathedrals to quiet cenotaphs, these events provide a chance to remember the fallen and celebrate the resilience of communities across Yorkshire.
Here is a guide to the Remembrance Day and Poppy Appeal events taking place across Yorkshire in 2024:
Filey Festival of Remembrance
- Date: Friday, 8th November
- Time: 7:00pm
- Location: Filey Methodist Church, Union St, Filey YO14 9DZ
- Details: Evening of music raising funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
Hull Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance
- Date: Friday, 8th November
- Time: 7:30pm
- Location: Hull City Hall
- Details: Evening of music and ceremony, including a Parade of Standards and performances by local bands and choirs.
Bradford Remembrance Service

- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: From 10:25am
- Location: Cenotaph, Bradford
- Details: Civic parade begins at 10:25am from City Hall. Act of Remembrance, led by The Very Reverend Andy Bowerman, starts at 10:55am with reflective sentences. Service includes two-minute silence at 11am, wreath-laying, and concludes with The Sunset Ceremony in City Park.
York Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: Parade starts at 10:25am; service at 11:00am
- Location: Parade from Assembly Rooms, Blake Street, to Memorial Gardens, Leeman Road
- Details: The parade, led by the Lord Mayor, proceeds to the Memorial Gardens for a service including the 'Ode to the Fallen', 'Last Post', gun salute, prayers, and wreath-laying.
Remembrance Sunday Service at York Minster
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 10:30am
- Location: York Minster
- Details: Annual service of thanksgiving and commemoration, featuring music by the Choir of York Minster, hymns, readings, prayers, and an Act of Remembrance at 11:00am. The service will be livestreamed on the Minster’s YouTube channel.
Leeds Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: Parade at 10:50am; service at 11:00am
- Location: Victoria Gardens
- Details: Procession of dignitaries and military personnel to the war memorial, followed by a multi-faith service led by the Bishop of Kirkstall. Includes a two-minute silence at 11:00am.
Hull Remembrance Sunday Service
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 10:00am
- Location: Hull Minster
- Details: Service followed by a special commemoration reading from the Golden Book, containing names of First World War soldiers, starting at 1:00pm and concluding around 4:00pm.
Ripon Civic Service of Remembrance
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 9:30am
- Location: Ripon Cathedral
- Details: Sung Eucharist followed by an Act of Commemoration in the Spa Gardens at 10:50am, and a parade through the city for a Remembrance Day Service in the cathedral at 11:40am.
Filey Remembrance Sunday Service
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 09.30
- Location: St. Oswald’s Church, Address: Church Cliff Dr, Filey YO14 9ET
- Details: Service to commemorate Remembrance Sunday.
Bradford Catherdral Remembrance Sunday Service

- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 10:30am
- Location: Bradford Cathedral
- Details: Choral Eucharist featuring the Cathedral Choir, Act of Remembrance at the Cathedral Memorial, and Elgar’s Nimrod performed. Service live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook.
Bradford Cathedral Festival of Remembrance (Radio Broadcast)
- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 2pm (on Premier Christian Radio)
- Details: Special broadcast featuring archive and new choir recordings for Remembrance.
Royal Armouries Museum Remembrance Sunday Act of Remembrance:
- Location: Royal Armouries Museum Leeds, Armouries Drive, Leeds LS10 1LT
- Formal ceremony on 10 November at 10:50 am outside the museum
- Includes a two-minute silence and blank-firing of First World War rifles
Bradford Cathedral Remembrance Sunday Evensong

- Date: Sunday, 10th November
- Time: 3:30pm
- Location: Bradford Cathedral
- Details: Reflective Evensong with Remembrance music by the Cathedral Choir, including Bainton’s And I Saw A New Heaven.
Bradford outdoor short service to mark Armistice Day
- Date: Monday, 11th November
- Time: 11am
- Location: City Park, Bradford
- Details: Short reflective service at the Cenotaph, attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Bev Mullaney.
Bradford de Lacy Centre: Monday Fellowship Talk

- Date: Monday, 11th November
- Time: 2pm
- Location: de Lacy Centre, Bradford Cathedral
- Details: Talk on the ‘World War I Memorial Window.’
Bradford Cathedral: There But Not There Installation
- Location: Bradford Cathedral
- Details: Silhouettes and life-size outlines of WWI soldiers among poppies commemorate those who served and died. Visitors can pause, reflect, pray, and light a candle in remembrance.
