|Ever had a dream so big it felt a bit bonkers? Like wanting to be an astronaut who also bakes award-winning cakes, or a professional gamer who's also a secret agent. Well, a brilliant new play rolling into Yorkshire is all about chasing those big dreams, especially when people think you can't. Inspired by the true story of three skateboarding Muslim sisters from Hull, Sisters360 is a funny, high-energy show that’s set to prove that absolutely nothing is impossible. It’s stopping off at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield on Saturday 18th April 2026, and it even has actual skateboarding live on stage. How cool is that?

A story that just had to be told
Sometimes, a story is just so good that it needs a bigger stage. That’s exactly what happened when playwright Asif Khan stumbled upon the story of the "Hijabi-sisters." These were three real-life sisters from Hull who started skateboarding and, in doing so, completely flipped stereotypes on their head. Khan, known for his work on plays like Tartuffe for the RSC and Combustion at the Arcola Theatre, was so inspired that he had to write about it.
The result is Sisters360, a play that captures all the heart and energy of that original story. The play itself is about two step-sisters from Bradford, Fatima and Salima, who are chasing their own dream: winning the 'Tiny is Mighty' skateboarding competition. It’s not just about landing the perfect trick, though. The sisters are also dealing with the very real threat of their family being split apart, adding a whole layer of drama to their story. It’s a journey about sticking together, facing your fears, and going for what you want, no matter what anyone else says. This production, brought to life by Turtle Key Arts, is a perfect reminder that some of the best stories come from real life, and that heroes can be found in the most unlikely of places—like a skatepark in Bradford.
Smashing stereotypes on stage
What do you picture when you think of a skateboarder? Probably someone in baggy jeans and a beanie, right? But what about a girl in a hijab? That’s the brilliant thing about Sisters360 – it completely smashes those old-fashioned ideas. The play follows Fatima and Salima, played by the talented duo Sara Abanur and Farah Ashraf, as they become unlikely heroes. They’re inspired by none other than Olympic medallist Sky Brown, who showed the world just how mighty young skateboarders can be. It’s a story about challenging what people expect from you. Imagine being told you can't do something just because of what you wear or where you're from.
Fatima and Salima prove that you can be cool, wear a hijab, and be an amazing skateboarder all at the same time. The play is packed with laughs and has so much energy it’ll make you want to jump on a board yourself. It’s not just for kids who love skateboarding, either. It’s for anyone who’s ever been told they don't fit in, or that their dream is too big. It shows that being different is actually your superpower, and that you can achieve anything if you've got enough heart and a bit of help from your family.
Bringing the action to Huddersfield
This isn't your average sit-down-and-be-quiet kind of play. Get ready for some serious action, because Sisters360 features skateboarding happening right there on the stage. The UK tour is making a special stop at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield, giving Yorkshire families the chance to see this incredible production. The show is on Saturday, 18th April 2026, and it promises to be a day out that the whole family will be talking about for weeks. Think about the excitement of seeing real skaters perform tricks live, combined with a funny and touching story. It’s a completely unique experience that brings the thrill of the skatepark into the theatre.
The play is designed for families, so it’s something that a 12-year-old will love, but adults will find plenty to enjoy too. It’s got that perfect mix of humour, action, and a story with real heart. It’s not every day you get to see a show that’s so full of life and has such a powerful, positive message. It is a fantastic opportunity to see a landmark production right on your doorstep.
