Hull is still humming with energy after the incredible Coldplay shows lit up the city back in August. For anyone whose ears are still ringing and is looking for the next music-themed night out, look no further. The Lord Mayor’s annual Music Quiz is making its return, and after the city hosted one of the biggest bands in the world, this year’s quiz is aiming to be just as epic. It's the perfect chance to gather your mates, test your musical knowledge, and see who really knows their pop from their rock.

Get your team together for a proper music quiz

Imagine this: you and your five smartest, music-loving friends, huddled around a table, wracking your brains to remember that one-hit-wonder from the 90s. The Lord Mayor’s Music Quiz is the place to make that happen. Teams of up to six people are invited to battle it out at the magnificent Guildhall on Tuesday 30 September. The fun kicks off at 7pm, so there’s plenty of time to get settled in before the first round begins. This is a fantastic opportunity for a bit of friendly competition, pitting your team's musical wits against others to see who will be crowned the champions.

More than just a quiz: pie, chips, and charity

A ticket to this popular event costs £15 per person, but it gets you a lot more than just a spot at the quiz. Let's be honest, all that thinking is hungry work. That’s why the ticket also includes a classic supper of pie, chips, and peas to keep the brain cells fuelled. And nobody is left out, as there is a vegetarian option available too. It’s the perfect comfort food for a cosy September evening. Even better, every penny of the proceeds goes directly to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund. This year, the fund is supporting two fantastic local organisations: STAND and One Punch Hull & East Yorkshire. These charities do amazing work within the community, offering support to people facing really difficult times. So, while you're arguing about whether a song was released in 1982 or 1983, you can feel good knowing your participation is making a real difference right here in Hull.

From Coldplay to Calum Scott: what to expect

With the recent Coldplay shows being such a massive success, it's no surprise they're on the mind of the Lord Mayor, Councillor Cheryl Payne. She said: “We’ve just had the biggest band in the world in our city – so I want this to be the biggest Lord Mayor’s Music Quiz ever!” So, can quizzers expect a question or two about Chris Martin and the band? It seems very likely. The Lord Mayor added: “There might just be a Coldplay question or two, but I hope the quiz covers all eras of music, including the fantastic singers and groups that have come out of our city.” This means the questions will span decades and genres, ensuring a level playing field for everyone. This promises to be September’s pick of the pops and so much more. The night will also be a celebration of Hull’s own rich musical heritage. As Councillor Payne noted: “We rightly celebrate people like Mick Ronson, Paul Heaton and Calum Scott, and I dare say they’ll be covered on the night!” It's a fantastic nod to the incredible talent that has emerged from the city.
