Laphroaig Select has taken whiskey from a variety of casks including Oloroso sherry butts, American white oak, hogsheads seasoned with Pedro Ximenez, quarter casks and first fill bourbon cask. The result is a more reserved take on Laphroaig's single malt offerings.The No 1 Islay malt in the UK and globally, Laphroaig is one of the most richly peated whiskies and the only single malt Scotch whisky to be awarded the Royal Warrant by HRH Prince of Wales. The original Laphroaig, distilled the same way today as when Ian Hunter invented it over 75 years ago. In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. Those enjoying the 10 Year Old will first notice the bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness.
