This variety provides superb yields of oval courgettes featuring a delightful combination of green, grey, and yellow skins, all while maintaining an open, bushy growth habit. To cultivate these squashes, sow seeds indoors from April to May before later transplanting. Plant squash seeds on their sides in small 7.5cm (3 inches) pots filled with seed compost, approximately 2cm (¾ inch) deep. Use a propagator or seal pots inside a plastic bag at a temperature of 20-25°C (68-77°F) until germination occurs, which takes around 5-7 days. Ensure that light is not excluded, as it aids germination. Once germinated, grow the squash in cooler conditions until the risk of frost has passed and the plants are large enough for outdoor transplantation. Gradually acclimatise the plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in warm, well-drained, humus-rich soil in full sun. Choose a location that receives a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Alternatively, for outdoor sowing, wait until May when the soil has warmed, and then plant seeds at a depth of 2cm (¾ inch) with a spacing of 90cm (36 inches) apart. Sow two seeds per hole and thin out the weakest seedling after germination. If possible, grow under cloches until the squash plants are well established.
