A united effort to keep Doncaster tidy

Next month, Doncaster’s business community is rolling up its sleeves and getting stuck in to tackle litter in the city centre. Organised by the Doncaster Chamber of Commerce in partnership with City of Doncaster Council, this large-scale litter pick – called Keeping Doncaster Tidy – will take place on 2nd April.

It’s the first of two big clean-up events planned for the year, and local businesses are being encouraged to take part. Equipment will be provided, and the aim is simple: make Doncaster cleaner, more attractive, and a place people are proud to visit, work, and live in.

Keeping Doncaster Tidy

Why is this happening?

This isn’t just a random litter pick – it’s part of a bigger vision called Doncaster ’35: A Manifesto for a Winning City. This plan, shaped by local businesses and community leaders, looks at ways to make Doncaster a thriving city over the next decade.

One key issue raised? The city centre. While there’s been investment in security, new developments like the waterfront project and the Gateway One digital hub, and efforts to tackle antisocial behaviour, many still feel the area needs a boost.

The Chamber of Commerce and local businesses want to take action, not just talk about it. And this litter pick is their way of showing they care.

What Doncaster’s business leaders are saying

Dan Fell, Chief Executive of Doncaster Chamber, is calling on businesses to get involved. He explains why this matters:

“We all want Doncaster to be a place where people want to invest, visit, and do business. If we want that, then we need to make sure our city centre is presentable.

“This litter pick isn’t just about cleaning up – it’s a way for businesses to show they are part of the solution. It’s a chance to improve our shared spaces, network with other professionals, and demonstrate the strong corporate social responsibility values that so many local firms take seriously.”

And he has a simple message for business owners:

“If you care about Doncaster’s future, join us on 2nd April. Together, we can make a real difference.”

Businesses of all sizes are invited to take part. Whether you’re a small shop, a large corporation, or a local start-up, this is a chance to give back to the community while connecting with others.
