There's something special about a community coming together, isn't there? It’s not about grand gestures, but the small, brilliant moments that stick with you. Think about school fairs, local bake sales, or that neighbour who always says hello. It’s this spirit that was on full display over at The Mount School in Edgerton, where a classic game of bingo managed to do something wonderful: bring pupils, families, and a local business together for a bit of Easter fun. The local housebuilder, Jones Homes, decided to get involved, showing that building a community is about more than just bricks and mortar.

A bit of bingo brings everyone together

Picture this: a school hall buzzing with energy. Around 60 people, a mix of kids and their families, all with their eyes down, listening intently. It was the school’s first-ever Easter bingo family event, and it was a proper hit. Forget quiet, serious bingo halls; this was all about fun, laughter, and maybe a few Easter-themed snacks on the side. Pupils and their families sat side-by-side for three rounds of the game, creating a lovely, lively atmosphere that you just can't manufacture.

And who was at the helm of this ship? The bingo caller, of course. A good caller can make or break a game, and teaching assistant Vanessa Pound was apparently on top form. When someone with a bit of personality is calling the numbers, it turns a simple game into a real performance. It’s these little details that transform a school get-together into a memorable event. The whole thing was designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, a chance for everyone to catch up and have a laugh outside the usual school run hustle and bustle.

More than just a game

For the school, this event was about much more than just dabbing numbers on a card. It was a chance to strengthen the bonds that make a school feel like a proper community. It’s one thing for kids to see each other in class, but it’s another for families to connect and feel part of something bigger. Events like this give everyone that opportunity, creating a network of support and friendship that extends beyond the school gates.

Natalie Sandford, the Deputy Head at The Mount School, summed it up perfectly. She said:

“This was our first Easter bingo family event, and we are hoping to make it an annual fixture. Hosting events for the wider school community is important to us as it gives our families the opportunity to get involved in all that The Mount School has to offer.”

“The event went exceptionally well, and we were really pleased with the turnout. The intention was to have fun and bring the community together, and we certainly achieved that. Miss Pound’s entertaining bingo calling was a real highlight of the event, and everybody had a great time.”

“The donations from Jones Homes and other local businesses are greatly appreciated. We like to work with local companies, and having this support makes it easier for us to put on events like this for the school community.”

Why local support is a big deal

So, what did Jones Homes do? They chipped in with some brilliant prizes that definitely would have sweetened the deal for anyone shouting "Bingo!". The housebuilder donated a lovely Easter hamper and a luxury chocolate egg. Let's be honest, who wouldn't want to win that? It's a simple but thoughtful gesture that shows they’re paying attention to what’s happening in the local area. This kind of sponsorship is vital for schools, as it allows them to put on fun events without straining their budgets.

Jones Homes isn't just a random company; they're actively building in the area. Their Clayton Manor development, with 40 new homes, is just off Queen’s Road in Edgerton. By supporting the local school, they are showing that they want to be a positive part of the neighbourhood's fabric.

Jayne Swift, the Sales and Marketing Director at Jones Homes Yorkshire, explained their thinking:

“We greatly value our relationships with local schools as they play such an important role in the communities where we build. It was a pleasure to support The Mount School’s first ever Easter Bingo family event and we are delighted that it proved to be such a resounding success.”

It’s a clear message that their investment in the area goes beyond construction.
