|Classical music lovers, be prepared for a delight! The wonderful pianist Junyan Chen is coming to the Harrogate International Sunday Series. The series starts on 26 January 2025 at the lovely Old Swan Hotel, where you can enjoy your morning coffee and be serenaded by some amazing music.
This isn’t just a recital – it’s a chance to see a musician who’s fast becoming a star of classical music.

Who is Junyan Chen?
If you haven’t heard of her yet, you will be. Chen made headlines in 2024 when she won the silver medal at the Leeds International Piano Competition. And on top of that she won the Chamber Music Prize and the Alexandra Dariescu Award for performing a work by a woman composer. Wow!
But that’s not all. Junyan has already performed at top venues such as Wigmore Hall in London and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall. She has also worked with leading orchestras including the Shanghai Philharmonic and the Brighton Philharmonic.
In 2022 she released her debut solo album, It’s Time, on Linn Records. The album is a mix of Turkish folk ballads, jazz and African dance.
The programme: Bach to Bartók
For her Harrogate concert Junyan has put together a programme that’s both new and old. She’ll play Bach, Beethoven, Bartók and Liszt. Whether you’re a classical music aficionado or a newcomer there’s something in this programme for everyone.
Before the concert Junyan said:
“I think classical music is very much alive and I hope the audience will fall in love with these pieces as I have. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone through the music – and making some new friends along the way.”
The venue: The Old Swan Hotel
All the Sunday Series concerts are at the Old Swan Hotel, a lovely historic building. It’s the perfect place to spend a morning of music with friends. The relaxed atmosphere and small space makes every concert feel special whether you’re a regular concertgoer or just curious about classical music.
