We’re pleased to announce a new signing for 2025: 23 year old Jude Ferreira. This young, exciting outside back has just come off a good season with Hunslet Hawks and this signing has been made possible thanks to the continued support of Squadbuilder, York’s player funding initiative.

With a history of big performances and plenty of skill Ferreira will bring some much needed energy to York and will be looking to push for a centre spot. Here’s more on why Ferreira is a great signing and how he can make an impact.

Career to date: Hull FC to Hunslet Hawks

Ferreira started his career at Hull FC where he impressed not only with his on field skills but also as Academy captain. Quick and a sharp finisher Ferreira soon made a name for himself among the young prospects in British rugby.

In 2022 Ferreira went on loan to the London Broncos in the Championship where he showed he could play at a higher level. He played 11 times and faced York at their home ground the LNER Community Stadium, a game where he scored a try in a 36-34 loss for the Broncos.

Released by Hull FC after his loan with the Broncos Ferreira joined Hunslet Hawks for the 2024 season and he certainly made the most of it. He scored 22 tries in 28 games and was a big part of Hunslet’s League 1 promotion push. He scored 4 tries in a game against the Keighley Cougars, a performance that will have caught the eye of York’s scouts and fans.

Welsh international on the rise

Ferreira’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed on the international scene either. He’s been named in the Welsh squad for the 2026 RLWC European Qualifiers. This is a sign of his growing reputation and he’s one to watch for the future.

Mark Applegarth on Ferreira: “He’ll be good competition”

York’s coach Mark Applegarth is over the moon to have Ferreira on board. Applegarth has known Ferreira since his early days in the City of Hull Academy and sees a lot of potential in the young player. Talking about Ferreira’s season at Hunslet, Applegarth said

“He’ll be good competition for the centres”.

This isn’t the first time Applegarth and Ferreira have worked together either. Having coached Ferreira in the England Pathways programme, Applegarth has seen the hard work and dedication Ferreira puts into his game. He’s looking forward to working with Ferreira again and helping him reach his full potential and maybe even get back to top level rugby.

Big lineup for York RLFC in 2025

Ferreira is York’s 4th new signing for 2025 along with Paul McShane, Kieran Buchanan and James Farrar. Together this new lineup brings experience, versatility and youth and there’s plenty to be excited about for the fans as the season approaches.

Ferreira’s arrival adds depth and competition in the backline which could be the key to a strong season. With his experience and try scoring record he could be the breakout star of the season.

So here’s to Ferreira and the rest of the new boys. If he’s anything like he was at Hunslet he’ll bring some magic to the LNER Community Stadium. Watch this space.
