If you’re looking for a unique and meaningful Valentine's Day gift, the Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife Conservation Park has something special—Love Bug hearts! Instead of flowers or chocolates, you can secure a heart on the Love Bug board, featuring the name of your loved one.

The board will be revealed on 14th February, right next to a fascinating colony of leafcutter ants—one of the largest in the UK! And here’s the adorable part: these tiny workers will be carrying little red heart shapes, made from edible leaves or petals, along their trail. It’s like watching nature’s own tiny cupids hard at work!

Love that supports wildlife

Each Love Bug heart costs just £3, and every penny goes towards the park’s wildlife conservation efforts and animal enrichment projects. So, by taking part, you’re not only showing love for someone special, but also helping to protect and care for wildlife.

A Valentine’s date with a difference

Why not make a day of it? The Tropical Butterfly House, located near Sheffield, offers a magical setting for a memorable Valentine’s Day date. Walk through lush tropical gardens, spot free-flying butterflies, and of course, watch the leafcutter ants “harvesting the love.”

How to get involved

  • Purchase your Love Bug heart online: Tropical Butterfly House Website

  • Support wildlife conservation with your donation

More than just butterflies

The Tropical Butterfly House Wildlife Conservation Park is home to over 142 species, including mammals, birds, and minibeasts. The park celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2024 and recently built a new eco-friendly Butterfly House, supported by the RDPE Growth Development Fund.

Beyond exotic species, the park is deeply involved in local conservation, owning 46.5 acres of land across Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, and Derbyshire. Their efforts help native species thrive, with over 450 bird boxes attracting tree sparrows, barn owls, red deer, and even grass snakes.

So, whether you’re a wildlife lover or just looking for a Valentine’s Day idea that gives back, the Love Bug board is the perfect way to celebrate. Get your heart today!
