What Makes an Award-Winning Attraction?
The Accolades cover five categories:
- Welcome: Where the staff make you feel like family from the moment you get there.
- Quality Food and Drink: Because no day out is complete without a good meal.
- Hidden Gem: Smaller, lesser-known places that are worth a visit.
- Best Told Story: For the sites that bring history to life.
- Gold: Overall excellence.
These aren’t just given out for the sake of it. They’re based on thorough assessments by VisitEngland’s experts as part of their Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme. So only the best of the best get awarded.
Director’s Take on the Awards
According to Andrew Stokes, VisitEngland’s Director:
“These awards celebrate attractions that deliver great experiences, from service to storytelling.
“These accolades highlight the wonderful visitor experiences provided by English attractions, from the warmest of welcomes to amazing food and drink, from great storytelling to outstanding customer service.”
From stately homes to tiny museums, English attractions go all out to make every visit special.
Why Tourism Matters
You might not think tourism is a big deal, but in England it’s a massive industry. Supporting over 200,000 businesses and 2.6 million people, it’s a major part of the economy. In 2023 £70.5 billion was spent by domestic visitors. That’s a lot of cups of tea, train tickets and family holidays!
