A tale from Richmomd....
Lewis carroll went to school in Richmond for 6 years when his father was vicar at Croft. A Lewis Carroll researcher visited Frenchgate Guest House, and said that the Dell in picture in our Gallery, in front of the Easby Abbey, is were the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party took place in Lewis Carroll's minds eye!

Fantastic place, only a few minutes away from the centre of town. Rachel and Mick are perfect hosts. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend anyone coming to Richmond to book Frenchgate Guest House 👍

After arriving soaked from our hike, Mick and Rachel greeted us warmly, drying our boots and showing us to our room. It was at the rear of the building with a magnificent view over Richmond. The room was superb and their additional touches ( welcome chocolate) show how much they care about their guests. The view from the breakfast room is wonderful, as was the breakfast and packed lunch they prepared. Thanks R + M for all your extra efforts.

What started off as ‘just a place to stay’ is now somewhere we look forward to returning as often as possible. When a friend moved to a pub in the local area (The Shin Inn) we wanted to visit. A room at 66 Frenchgate was booked for us with an assurance it would be lovely. This was a complete understatement. Mick and Rachel are the most friendly, down to earth, helpful and general nicest set of B&B owners we have ever come across. Being a young couple, we wondered if they would worry about how we would be as guests returning from an afternoon/ evening of drinking, this has never been the case. Even when a large group of us stayed for a birthday, they could not have been more accommodating to all 9 guests staying that particular time. Initially we planned to visit the friend in his pub, explore the area, wondering how many times we would make the 2 hour journey. We have completely fallen in love with Richmond, and within a space of 18 months have visited approximately 5 times. Mick and Rachel have contributed massively to our love of Richmond through their kindness, generosity and warm welcome. See you next time! The kids x
