We are a family of 5 (with 3 teenage children) and we are now staying in lodge 6 this week, and it was our very first time in Yorkshire Dales. We have been planning to visit this national park since we watched "All Creatures Great and Small". The first impression when we stepped into the lodge was: “it is very clean, cosy and lovely. It is filled with everything that a family need for a holiday”. We have been to many other holiday lodges including Lake District and Snowdonia. But this lodge is the most spacious and the most completely supplied with all the necessary stuff, and we couldn’t even believe it. All the various kinds of kitchen utensils are provided. When we needed some extra stuff, we rang the manager who was very helpful, and a staff member dropped them off very quickly. Thank you so much. Fantastic team! One thing I like to highlight is that the fridge was not mentioned on the website, and so we thought there would be no fridge. But actually, there was a fridge and a separate freezer as well. I think the description and the photos on the website are not complete, and the actual lodge is way more beautiful and lovelier than the website. Believe me! The lodges are located on a hill, and so the view is stunning. We can see the lovely town of Richmond from above, and we can visit the town centre to buy groceries, it’s only 5 minutes’ drive. The surrounding of the lodges is so beautiful with trees large and small, green farmlands, sheep and cattle in the view (but far enough not to get the smell), green hills up and down, blue sky and the fast-moving clouds. As it is autumn now, all the trees are so colourful and awesome. The trees near our lodge are so tall, beautiful, colourful and amazing. It is also very quiet and tranquil in the area, and you can hear the sweet sounds of the birds chirping all the time. So nice and relaxing! Another exciting thing is there are lots of little rabbits around, and the children are so happy to see them. I have never seen such a lot of small wild rabbits, probably hundreds in the region. They are shy and timid, and so they won’t come near to the people. Children fed them some carrots, but they ran away, and they came back later to eat the carrots when we were not in sight. They were so cute. We are so glad that we chose this holiday site, and we came here in autumn. It is an unforgettable holiday for our family, and we will come back again one day. A hundred percent recommended!
We thoroughly enjoyed our first stay here, in Lodge 7. We have stayed regularly in Richmond over the years, in lakeside lodges, but have found an increase in road noise there recently. We decided to try here as an alternative (also better value at the time of booking), and glad we did. There is no road noise here whatsover and the sound of birdsong (even owls calling to one another at night) is everpresent. To the rear of the lodge is seating and a firepit, which we didn't use. The area back there was a little 'midgey' but that was probably to do with the weather at that time. Lodge 7 is mostly shaded by trees at the front but does get sun on the deck for a couple of hours in the morning, this was perfect for us. Inside had everything we needed including a proper coffee machine, which pleased my partner as he has one at home and always misses a good breakfast coffee on holiday. The bedrooms and en-suites were great and the boiler gives hot water on demand so you do not have to wait for a tank full to get hot, as with other places. We also liked the fact that we could walk into town from here and the views on the walk were just beautiful. (Uphill on the way back but we just stopped for a rest!) 😂 We were given the option to arrive early, which was lovely, although we couldn't actually use it on this occasion. We did however pay for a later check out which was fantastic, doesn't everyone hate having to set an alarm on the last day of your holiday so that you can get up and clean and pack? No? Well, we do 😂 Housekeeping actually arrived half an hour before we were due to leave but they politely retreated when they realised we were still packing up. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning as soon as we can.
We’ve been coming here twice a year for 12+ years and love it. As others have said, it’s in such a peaceful, idyllic setting with so much wildlife surrounding you, and Richmond either a 5 minute drive or 40 minute walk across the fields and by the river. The lodges are beautifully furnished and very well equipped. We’ve been here in sun, rain and snow and the lodge layout always makes the best of the weather. We stay in lodge 7 with en-suite rooms and a fire pit out if the back. It gets the sun in the morning. Bliss! From time to time we need help from Amanda, the site manager, and both she and the team are always so helpful and accommodating.
What can I say? We have been coming here at different times over a period of16 years, but more recently, twice a year. It’s a family holiday, which is loved by my 92 yr old mum, me and my husband, down to my son, his fiance and little Yorkie ! What makes this place, other than the fantastic lodges themselves, the location and tranquility, are the onsite staff. NOTHING is too much trouble… they give 5* service every time without fail. I must mention in particular Sam ,who on our current holiday has been an absolute star… I can’t thank her enough for her care, dedication and attention. She wants every guest to have just the best time! And last visit, my son left the dogs tracker behind… this was extremely quickly posted to his home address by Amanda! They’re both fantastic!! Thank you once again!
We spent 8 nights in Lodge 18. The lodges are wonderful. Quiet, with a sensational bedroom featuring a super king-size bed. The living room has huge sofas and above-average technical equipment. The kitchen is a dream for any amateur chef, as it has everything you need. There is a private parking space for the car, and apart from the birdsong, you are completely secluded from your surroundings. Perfect for absolute relaxation, yet still close enough to the nearest town.
