We attended a wake here two weeks ago, utterly shameful experience from start to finish. The buffet was beyond poor, all ingredients cheaply bought from Aldi/Lidl with no effort to hide where the items had come from (potato salad and coleslaw being good indicators). Sandwiches were something you’d expect at a 1980’s party along with stale and cold sausage rolls and quiche, no hot buffet items or complimentary tea and coffee in sight. The venue itself was freezing, we asked why there was no heating available to be told they’d ran out of gas meaning we’d have to put up and get on with it. We then asked whether hot drinks would be available to be told they had no milk and a member of the party then had to go out to buy milk from Sainsbury’s, on return hot drinks were then available which were subject to a charge despite us providing the milk. The toilets are shameful, filthy in all areas, wallpaper falling off the walls. The seating areas are also dirty and in need of a good clean. Given the money spent and the number of attendees there was no attempt to make the event something where we felt comfortable and where loved ones and friends could pay there respect. Due to the overall condition all the party left at 14:00 despite having the final whistle booked until 17:00. If you’re wanting a decent send off for a family member where you can celebrate their life in a clean place where the owners and staff care, do not book here.
After travelling from Peterborough on Saturday 25th March for my son in laws surprise 50th birthday party and on going to the final whistle to help set up we found the 2 young lady staff members amazingly helpful but sadly that is where it ended. The DJ was pathetic. Firstly we couldn't hear the music then it was far too load. He played nothing anyone could dance to and to make matters worse, 2 uninvited women turned up that he had obviously invited and the three of them were throwing glow light necklaces at each other. The place was so cold and when myself and others asked for the heating to be turned on was told there was only one very small heater in the place. Many of us wore our coats ALL evening. If you are going to charge for the room the least you could do is heat it properly and tell anyone being hired ie; the DJ not to invite who he wants. I hope you will make recompense for this to the customer. The three stars are purely for the young ladies.
Very friendly staff and welcoming. Have visited twice now and very enjoyable. Plenty of screens showing sport and table service for drinks due to Covid and staff very efficient to take your order. Look forward to returning again and hopefully see some proper football 🍻💪
Very pleasantly surprised. Nicely furnished with plenty of seating and tv's to watch the sport. Good efficient bar staff with good prices. Will definately be paying another visit
Great hospitality for our Xmas Party at the Final Whistle. Everyone at Selby Town FC has been really supportive of our local athletics club - Vale of York Athletic Community.
