Welcome to Yorkshire

|In the charming village of Shiptonthorpe, East Yorkshire, four beautiful gardens will open their gates to the public on the 6th and 7th of June. This delightful event aims to raise funds for important charities through the National Garden Scheme, which has a long history of supporting nursing and health organisations.
Gardens Opening to the Public
The gardens participating in this event include:
Langdale End - An eclectic garden featuring a mix of contemporary and cottage styles, complete with tropical plants, an Asian-inspired area, water features, and a pond.
Wayside - Known for its diverse planting, this garden includes areas for growing vegetables and fruits, along with a greenhouse for budding gardeners.
Oranmore - A hidden gem divided into two sections, showcasing decorative architectural plants and a selection of carefully chosen herbaceous perennials.
York House - A wildlife-friendly garden that offers a bit of everything, from prairie-style plantings to an edible garden, and even the sounds of happy chickens.
Community Spirit and Charity
Di Thompson, who has been opening the Langdale End garden for 13 years, expressed her pride in sharing these gardens with the public. “We’re proud to share our garden with the public to raise valuable funds for the charities supported by the National Garden Scheme, and it’s great to see four gardens opening. It makes for a good day out for people,” she said.
The National Garden Scheme has been raising money for charity since its inception in 1927. Over the years, it has donated more than £74 million to nursing and health charities, with an impressive £3.9 million raised in 2025 alone. Helen Marsden, the county organiser for East Yorkshire, highlighted the contributions of local gardeners, stating, “Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors, we have achieved this, and would like to congratulate Susan Sellars, who celebrates a decade of opening Wayside for the National Garden Scheme this year.”
