WH Smith

Good location just behind the High Street and close to the market. It's a fairly small store but has all the things you normally find in a W H Smith. Good selection of magazines, quality cards and stationery, and books/games for children though not a big selection of books for adults. Bought a nice address book here. Very cheerful and friendly young man at the cash desk.

The staff were very nice and understanding, showed me where the book I was looking for was and even helped me choose a bookmark. If I had anything to add it would just be that the girl on the till, young and cute, looked as though she may have anxiety of some kind (I've had it in the past so sometimes I can tell), and I hope that they (if they do have a form of anxiety) manage to get over it!

Excellent selection of magazines, books and cards. However, it is a long narrow shop and they do try to fit in as much stock as possible which takes up most of the floor space. This means it can be very difficult to get around with a push chair or near impossible with a wheel chair.

Same quality as other stores but service was appalling. I asked to be charged for a bag along the things I bought only to be told it's too difficult to charge it all overall. I had to pay for the £0.50 of the bag sepperately which charged my card extra. I asked why and the response was "it would be difficult for me, sorry". Then I was given a very small bag to put all the things I bought and they watched me with their arms crossed as I struggled to fit everything in. I ,in response, took all the time in the world to fit everything in. It was a full minute and it was awkward but he didn't blink an eyelid and kept looking at me struggling.

A disappointing experience. I visited this store to collect an order this morning. The WHSmith website said that this store opened at 8:30 AM. At 9 AM I was still waiting outside in the cold before somebody opened the doors. The shop is overcrowded and frustrating move around in. It's also very dimly lit in cold blue LED light. I can appreciate WH Smiths wanting to save money on electricity and reduce their carbon footprint. However, the combination of low lighting, narrow cluttered aisles and towering shelves piled with stock is a recipe for disaster. I dread to think how anyone with a wheelchair would cope in this store.
