|North Yorkshire is set to come alive with the sound of world-class music once again as the Ryedale Festival returns this summer. Running from Friday 11 to Sunday 27 July 2025, this much-loved festival invites audiences to enjoy a rich blend of classical music, jazz, folk and poetry performed by some of the most celebrated artists and ensembles working today.

A Festival Steeped in Reputation
Now in its 44th year, the Ryedale Festival has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s leading classical music festivals, drawing a large and loyal following and the warm support of local communities. It has long championed both international talent and local musical life, offering audiences the chance to experience unforgettable live performances in some of Yorkshire’s most historic and picturesque locations.
This year’s programme promises to be no exception, with 57 concerts and events taking place in 33 stunning venues across the county. From the seaside charm of Scarborough to the cobbled streets of Skipton, the festival offers a journey through North Yorkshire’s musical, cultural and natural heritage.
A Line-Up of Acclaimed Artists
One of the festival’s hallmarks is its ability to attract some of the world’s finest musicians. For 2025, the line-up includes Artists in Residence such as trailblazing saxophonist Jess Gillam, whose vibrant performances and commitment to new audiences have won her widespread acclaim. Grammy-winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre also joins the festival, bringing his signature choral works to life in atmospheric settings.
Joining them is Royal Philharmonic Society Singer of the Year Claire Booth, known for her vivid interpretations and stage presence, and internationally renowned violist Timothy Ridout, recognised as one of the leading players of his generation.
Adding to this exceptional list are Ensembles in Residence that promise to delight festival-goers. The legendary Austrian string quartet Quatuor Mosaïques, famed for their historically informed performances, will present a programme that combines elegance and energy. Vocal ensemble VOCES8, renowned for their precision and warmth, will also perform, offering audiences the chance to hear choral music at its very finest.
Music in Stunning Settings
The Ryedale Festival is not just about the music, but also about the sense of place. Performances are set against backdrops ranging from grand stately homes like Castle Howard to ancient, frescoed churches, medieval halls, and historic abbeys such as Selby Abbey. Each venue adds its own magic, allowing audiences to soak up centuries of history while enjoying some of today’s most exciting musical talent.
Whether it’s an evening concert as the sun sets over the North York Moors, an intimate recital in a village church, or a rousing choral performance filling the vaulted ceilings of a historic abbey, each event is designed to celebrate both music and the beauty of Yorkshire.
Book Your Tickets
With such a varied and high-calibre programme, the Ryedale Festival is always a highlight of Yorkshire’s cultural calendar. Many performances are popular and sell out quickly, so early booking is highly recommended.
