A Big Boost for York Knights

York Knights have made a major addition to their squad by signing Mitch Clark, a powerful and experienced prop forward. The 31-year-old has committed to a two-and-a-half-year deal, joining the club after a spell with Sheffield Eagles, where he was recently released from his contract.

Clark brings plenty of top-level experience, having played in Super League for both Castleford Tigers and Wigan Warriors, as well as turning out for clubs like Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers, and Doncaster in the Championship.

But for York fans, there’s an extra connection—Clark actually made a single appearance for the club back in 2017 while on dual registration from Hull KR, earning him heritage number #1832.

What Does Clark Bring to York?

Clark is known for his strong carries, powerful presence, and an ability to offload in tight situations, giving York some extra firepower up front. Head coach Mark Applegarth is excited about what the prop forward will bring to the squad.

“I’m really delighted to get Mitch over the line,” Applegarth said.

“It came around really quickly. He’s a player that we were definitely looking at for next year but when the opportunity came to sign him for the rest of this year, we jumped at the chance.

“Mitch will add a different dimension to us. He’s got some punch in his attack, he’s got a great offloading game, and he’s got a great presence around him. I think culturally he’ll be a big lift for the lads as well.”

Clark’s addition should help bolster the Knights’ pack, bringing both experience and aggression to their forward line.

A Fresh Start—and a Growing Family

For Clark, the move to York isn’t just about rugby. It’s also about family.

“I’m really pleased to sign. I'm looking forward to getting started. I spoke to Mash before, and I can't wait to rip in. To get it sorted and over the line—I’m over the moon.”

“My partner and I are expecting our first child, and to be closer to home and have more time with my family is everything.”

That personal motivation could make Clark an even bigger asset to York, as he looks to settle in and make a real impact.

A Career with International Experience

Clark’s rugby journey hasn’t just been about club success. He’s also played at an international level, representing the Junior Kiwis in 2013 against the Junior Kangaroos. That experience—playing against some of the best young talent in the world—has helped shape him into the player he is today.

What’s Next for Clark and York Knights?

With Clark now in the squad, York Knights will be hoping his arrival helps push them forward for the remainder of the season. His blend of power, skill, and experience could be just what the team needs to step up to the next level.
