This is the 3rd time we purchase art or painting from this gallery and we didn't have any trouble with them. The staff was very helpful, they even have free deliveries. I don't know what happened few years back with those bad reviews but that wasn't the case a year ago and this year when we went there. And we didn't look at any reviews before purchasing and visiting this shop. So far this is our favorite Art Gallery shop in York. We purchased 3 beautiful paintings and we will buy more if we went visit again in York.

I wish I read the reviews before visiting. I'm in deep regret of going! The man at the shop ruined my date with my wife. The staff member was very rude and provided terrible customer service. He ended up opening the door and throwing us out. It was bizarre and I was left shaking. If you do go - do not ask any questions about the art. Oh, and if he aggressively tells you to leave the shop whilst opening the door and standing next to it don't try to de-escalate the situation. In my opinion, there was zero possibility for dispute but somehow he created drama. He has a very short fuse. All because of our lack of art knowledge.

Back in January, myself and my girlfriend visited york for a trip away after I applied for my uni course in the area. And whilst we were there, loving the city and its stunning history and culture, we stumbled into Coppergate and found this fine art gallery. All I will say, is that I’m glad we did not read the reviews for this shop at the time. But now that I look back to our experience then, the reviews weren’t wrong. The owner seemed fairly passive aggressive at the time and found himself to be relatively controlling as customers went in and out of the shop. However, as of yesterday, my views on the gallery and its service to its customers have changed completely. Myself and my parents took a visit to the city once again, and despite my knowledge of the reviews from January and what I felt at the time, I wanted to give it another go and see if any changes had been made since then. I can now definitely say that the staff are welcoming and willing to discuss any arrangements or queries about the art to a good standard. I am happy to see that the changes have been made since the previous owner and that as always, the art is looking as great as ever.

What a bizarre place and situation. The owner was extremely passive aggressive, and ended up kicking us out of the venue for browsing at the gallery. "Are you done viewing? I will make this easy for you, I'm closing the shop" (this was during the day on a Saturday). Not sure why he is running a shop if he hates customers and people. We ended up going next door and had a lovely browse and found something we liked. Avoid this place.

Gallery is nice; the person who’s working is absolutely awful. We liked one painting and googled a location of castle painted there (I have no idea how he could think that we’re taking photos — we obviously didn’t). He asked us to leave and said that we’ll have problems if we don’t and he doesn’t want it. Didn’t listen to explanations AT ALL and was extremely rude. Opened the door and threw us outside; couldn’t spoil mood of a perfect day in York more
