The Bar Convent Café offers beautiful surroundings, delicious homemade food and a peaceful, secluded garden.

Just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of historic York city centre, the café is open from Monday to Saturday for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea. We offer a fresh daily selection of homemade soups, tempting cakes and scones, with sandwiches made to order and a Specials Board updated daily. Our chef-prepared hot food is available each day until 3pm, and we're open from 8am each day for breakfast.

We strive to cater for a wide variety of diets, including Vegetarian and Gluten Free, and offer a selection of sandwiches and cakes that do not include any gluten-containing ingredients. Because our food is made on site, we're happy to take special requests in many instances.

We use only free range eggs in our home-baking and we're proud to source our fruit, vegetables, fresh meat and fish from local Yorkshire suppliers.

Our fabulous food can also be enjoyed in unique heritage surroundings. Our beautiful Victorian Atrium makes the perfect setting for a light lunch, or why not relax in our peaceful garden with coffee and friends? Regular guests have called us a sanctuary, and we fully agree with them.
