A very interesting English Heritage site: completely unique with a harrowing story attached to it. Our guide was knowledgeable and kept the narrative interesting. It's a great activity to do in York, and practically a must if you are already and English Heritage member.
It was a fascinating way to spend an hour learning about the history of the bunker and the part it played in the UK's early warning system. The tour was led by knowledgeable staff who share their passion generously. Unfortunately, my teenage daughter suddenly felt very faint at the end of the tour but she was really well looked after by our lovely tour guide (I can't remember her name, sorry). She also took great care to ensure that my daughter was given privacy from other members of the public who were understandably curious. Her kindness was appreciated.

A grim but fascinating glimpse of our not so distant past. The stories and living conditions of the personnel, the sacrifices they were willing and did take take on our behalf, whilst we worried about about the mundane. Fascinating. Visits are strictly managed by booked guided tours only-no walk ins accepted.
