Happy to have paid my part in preserving some important history that I’m very interested in. The lady who welcomed me ended up chatting to me for a good 20+ minutes. Definitely with the visit and money to fund this niche hands-on-museum. The lady who spoke to me and took my payment was very knowledgeable and interesting.
A Hidden Gem in the Heart of York. Our visit to the Roman Bath in York city centre was an absolute highlight of our trip! Tucked just beneath a lively pub, this tour felt like stepping through a secret doorway into ancient history. It’s incredible to think that right under modern York lies such a well-preserved glimpse into the city’s Roman past. The guides were outstanding — knowledgeable, engaging, and full of fascinating stories about Roman Eboracum. They explained how the bathhouse was discovered, the ingenious Roman engineering behind the heating system, and what daily life would have been like for soldiers relaxing there nearly 2,000 years ago. The enthusiasm and passion they brought to the tour really brought the ruins to life. The site itself is compact but absolutely packed with history. The lighting, displays, and original stonework make it easy to imagine the bustle of Roman life. We especially loved the artefacts on display and the detailed reconstructions that help you visualise how the bathhouse once looked in its prime. It’s a perfect stop for history lovers, families, or anyone curious about York’s fascinating layers of heritage. The fact that it’s located right beneath a traditional English pub
Very small but definitely worth to see it - you can even have a pint of beer afterwards in the pub. You will obviously see an old roman bath & lots of collected items. there is even a small dress-up corner, which made our day! definitely check it out!
We had a fantastic visit to the Roman Baths Museum. What an absolute hidden gem of a place! The lady who spoke with us was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explain the history in a way that was both fascinating and entertaining. Our children especially loved learning about the Romans, which made the experience even more memorable. Highly recommended!
Had such a good time, a little hidden gem under a pub. Claire was so helpful and even though I asked a lot of questions she answered them all and only seemed to get more interested about what we were talking about and not bored. She also took photos of me in traditional Roman clothes and helmet. Really do recommend this place, there aren’t many Roman baths you can see in England and especially for only £4.50. It was worth the price as soon as I walked in so I really do recommend it to anyone interested in history
