We stayed for one night and arrived at around 10 pm. When we tried to use the showers shortly after arrival, there was no hot water. We later confirmed with a fellow camper that they experienced the same issue. As access to basic facilities was part of what we paid for, this was disappointing. We followed the instructions provided and tried calling and texting the number listed when the showers weren’t working, but received no response at the time. As we were only staying one night, there was no practical solution available to us. We therefore had to leave the site late at night and go to a nearby 24-hour gym just to shower, which was a significant inconvenience. The owners later explained that the issue may have been resolved by the morning and offered a £10 refund, which we appreciate. However, whether the hot water returned later is irrelevant to our stay, as we were unable to use the advertised facilities when we needed them. The site itself is quiet and has potential, and it sounds as though improvements are planned. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the experience fell short of expectations.

On arrival we knew the site was down an unmade road but the road splits left & right & as there was no signs indicating where the campsite was, we ended up down the wrong one having to do a very tight turnaround at the end of someone’s house! Not a great start. Once we found the actual campsite, there was no one there to great us but as there was some builders doing work to the house, I asked if anyone was around to help us set up only to be told there was no one there. The builder kindly helped me by ringing the owner as our name wasn’t on the notice board at the entrance of the site showing which was our pitch. The builder also showed me where to find the, very dirty, toilets, shower & pot washing building. There was no indication about where the water was so we eventually found a water connector but had to drive slightly onto the grass to connect. Whilst we were filling up with water, we presume the owner returned (he never actually introduced himself) & promptly told us off for parking on the grass, indicating we should have used the hose reel by the house (this was being used by the builders & covered in concrete & dust). There were no signs to inform us of this & as no one was around so we just did the best we could. The toilet block was filthy. The toilet was dirty when we arrived & was never cleaned whilst we were there. There was hair & dirt in the shower room. The second toilet was in the same room as the pot washing sink which is not hygienic to say the least, especially as the on-site builders were also using the toilet facilities. It was so dirty, I refused to use the shower or toilet. The bin in the toilet was full, had empty cans of pop in & wasn’t emptied over the 2 nights we were there. We paid £30 per night which was way over what I would have been prepared to pay if I had known what it is actually like. Have stayed on far nicer sites for much less money. Think it’s fair to say we will not be returning!

A small friendly family run site, on a lovely secluded peaceful site. Easily accessible to York City Centre. Nice clean facilities. No over bearing rules as long as your respectful. Tents, caravan and motorhomes all welcome. Highly recommended!

We had the pleasure of camping for 2 nights in August. The site has very recently been taken over by Ellie & Darren and they have already started doing some major upgrades that is gonna make the site even better. We didn't meet Darren as he was grafting on the upgrades but I had been emailing with Ellie and had the chance to speak to her on site a few times and she was super lovely and she helped me out massively when I decided I needed an electric hookup. There is a bus route in to York nearby but Uber is so cheap we just booked both ways. The site is super cozy and has perfectly usable and clean hygiene facilities as is. There isnt anything 'to do' on site but that's what makes it so nice. People are coming back to the site to relax or sleep at the end of each day. This will be our 'go-to' site when visiting York from now on.
