Beautiful public open space managed by the wonderful Mayfield community trust who go to great lengths to keep the place looking its best and to keep it accessible. The trust are always looking for volunteers so if you appreciate this place get in touch with them on their Facebook page or on the website. Good for dog walks and cyclists and there’s a play park just on the edge by Nelson’s lane with swings and things for kids which is also looked after by MCT.
I had never visited here before previously, despite having lived in York all my life. It's a sweet little hidden gem off Tadcaster Road and was pretty pleasant. I haven't fished there but the folks I saw there seemed pretty happy and it wasn't busy. However, it is a small area so if you're planning a proper walk, you will have to include it on a longer route.
Excellent place took two of the grandchildren who are doing school project identify types leaves and foliage . Collected quite lot had a good walk around the railway pond and spent some time on the play park. A nice afternoon walk very pleasant.
A lovely walk, well looked after by caring volunteers. Watched the heron today.
