It’s Almost Yorkshire Day – Let the Celebrations Begin!
As the calendar turns towards August, there's only one thing on every proud local’s mind: Yorkshire Day is nearly here! Next week, communities across the county will come together to celebrate everything that makes God’s Own Country truly special—its people, places, heritage, and spirit.
In this week’s newsletter, we’re sharing just some of the exciting events building up to the big day—from co-hosted celebrations in Bradford and Ilkley, to steam trains, music festivals, and award-winning culture right across the region. Whether you’re a lifelong local or planning your first visit, there’s no better time to immerse yourself in the best of Yorkshire.
Let’s take a look at what’s on across the county as Yorkshire Day 2025 approaches…
Harrogate’s crime writing festival celebrated the genre’s best, with debut author David Goodman and acclaimed novelist Elly Griffiths both receiving top honours in this year’s awards.
Hull Museums are offering a packed summer of hands-on, family-friendly activities—most of them free—to keep visitors of all ages entertained throughout the school holidays.

Fiddler on the Roof opens next week at Leeds Grand Theatre!

☆☆☆☆☆ “A simply glorious revival” The Times
A theatrical triumph, winner of 3 Olivier Awards including Best Musical Revival, Fiddler on the Roof is now on a UK and Ireland tour, and will be at Leeds Grand Theatre from 29 July to 2 August.
Completely sold out at the Barbican in London, this is a rare opportunity to catch this critically acclaimed production direct from the West End.
From the powerhouse creative team directed by Jordan Fein (Oklahoma, Young Vic), choreographed by Julia Cheng (Cabaret), designed by Tom Scutt (Winner of the 2025 Olivier Award for Fiddler on the Roof).
It’s 1905 in the tiny village of Anatevka Tevye, a Jewish milkman, lives his life by their proud traditions. For his five daughters, that means a visit from the matchmaker. As each daughter challenges his beliefs, against the backdrop of a changing world, can Tevye hold on to his roots, or must he bend to the will of his children and learn to embrace the unfamiliar?
What is one of the greatest musicals of all time featuring, ‘If I Were A Rich Man’, ‘Tradition’, ‘Matchmaker’ and ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, this classic musical of joy and community is an exuberant celebration of love and life.
Fiddler on the Roof opens next week at Leeds Grand Theatre! Book early to avoid disappointment.
