Castleford Boat Yard

I have just left the boatyard and I am so impressed with the work that Gareth, Craig and Tony have done on my narrowboat. She is practically singing as she pootles along now, just like she is a brand new vessel! Not only did they do the work exactly when they said they would, they also did so at a good price, patiently explaining to me what they had completed, why and how. I honestly can’t praise them enough- best boatyard that I have ever been to! 🤩 If Carlsberg did boatyards then this would be it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just finished a week in the dry dock at Castleford and had a fantastic experience there. The new owners have been there for a little while now and clearly doing all they can to turn everything around with great results. I felt totally trusted to get on with things (DIY blacking and external painting) and at the same time they were there to help with anything I needed. There is always someone around the yard so it feels very secure, and a real sense of community with everyone very friendly and relaxed. Craig did great bit of pit welding, and signposted me to Steve who set to work some long overdue bits of joinery that have transformed the boat. Both very reasonably priced and very high quality. Absolutely brilliant service, and it's great to leave feeling like the boat has had everything she needs and is like a shiny new penny. I'll definitely use again and definitely recommend - thank you Craig, Gareth, Steve and Tony!

Gareth & Craig have been awesome. I’m down south so I didn’t get to meet them in person but their communication was fantastic and they have been so, so patient & helpful to a boating newbie. My boat, pre-purchase was taken to Castleford and the guys put her in dry dock ready for the pre-purchase survey. They liaised with me brilliantly including lots of photos at different stages. They jet washed her hill and fed their findings back to me which were exactly the same when the surveyor reported back. They took care of the bits that needed doing within hours, maintaining communication throughout. I know they’ve had a hard job shaking off the bad reputation from the previous owners, but they’re now building a loyal fan base. Oh, and they’re friendly, lighthearted and approachable too with zero judgement on my boating ignorance. I would strongly recommend these guys.

We recently (May 2025) arrived at The Boatyard, Castleford on a Saturday afternoon with a fuel related issue on our boat. Gareth took time out of what was clearly an already busy day for him to have a look for us and quickly diagnosed the potential cause. We agreed to return on Monday for the necessary work to be carried out and moored up nearby. We duly returned to The Boatyard and left our boat in Gareth's capable hands. A few hours later, all the agreed work had been completed and, very satisfied with Gareth's work and advice, plus a reasonable cost for the job, we continued on our way. We found Gareth and his boatyard partner Craig to be extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Great experience with new owners Craig and Gareth. We were looking at buying a widebeam and needed to get it out the water for a survey. Very reasonable charge for dry dock, and when we decided to buy the boat they sorted sandblasting, epoxy and 2 pack coating plus anodes and propeller repair within a week! Very happy with the service and will be back if anything else needs doing.
