|A Yorkshire whisky maker, Spirit of Yorkshire, is celebrating its tenth anniversary by unveiling a special release: the first age statement whisky from the region. This exciting new offering, called the Filey Bay 10 Year Old Single Cask 'Decade of Distilling', marks a significant milestone not just for the distillery but for Yorkshire's growing reputation in the whisky world.
Decade of Distilling Masterclass
The launch of this exclusive whisky is set to take place during a masterclass at the distillery's 10th birthday Open Weekend, happening on the 1st and 2nd of August. Only 200 bottles of this limited edition whisky will be available, and they can only be purchased by attendees of the masterclass. Each bottle has been specially crafted and aged for ten years, making it a unique addition for whisky enthusiasts.

David Thompson, co-founder of Spirit of Yorkshire, expressed his excitement about this release, stating:
“Be the first to both try and take home our ‘Decade of Distilling’ Single Cask, the first 10-year-old age-statement Yorkshire whisky. This single cask whisky was distilled and casked in summer 2016. Presented in a special box and exclusively available at this Masterclass, it shows how our distillery style has matured over the past ten years.”
What to Expect from the Masterclass
The masterclasses are set to take place at 1pm and 3pm on both days. Each session will welcome up to 50 participants, allowing for an intimate experience. Tickets for the masterclass are priced at £250, and they include not only the chance to taste the exclusive whisky but also an opportunity for engaging discussions about the distillery's journey and the whisky-making process.
During this special event, participants can expect:
Over an hour of whisky tastings, including the new 10-year-old release.
Conversations about the distillery’s first decade in production.
Tastings that reflect the evolution of their whisky from its early days to the latest offerings.
Open Weekend Details
The distillery's Tenth Anniversary Open Weekend will also feature general access tickets costing £20 in advance (£5 for children). These tickets include:
A guided tour of the distillery.
Three whisky drams to taste.
A nosing glass to take home.
More information regarding the Open Weekend will be shared closer to the date, allowing whisky fans and families to plan their visit.
About Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery
Spirit of Yorkshire is a pioneering distillery located in Hunmanby, North Yorkshire. It is notable for being the first single malt whisky distillery in the region. The distillery prides itself on its field-to-bottle approach, meaning the barley used to create its whisky is grown on the same estate where it is distilled. This methodology ensures a high-quality product that reflects the local landscape and farming practices.
The distillery uses 100% homegrown barley and water sourced from aquifers beneath the farm, making it one of only a few distilleries globally to operate this way. Its innovative distillation process employs a unique configuration of a four-plate copper column still that works alongside pot stills, believed to be the largest of their kind in the UK outside of Scotland.
In recognition of its quality, Spirit of Yorkshire was named one of the top 50 spirits producers in the world by the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) in 2025, further solidifying its place in the competitive world of whisky.
For those interested in experiencing Yorkshire's whisky heritage, the upcoming masterclass and Open Weekend promise to be a fantastic opportunity. Whether it's tasting the unique flavours of the Filey Bay 10 Year Old Single Cask or enjoying a day out at the distillery, whisky lovers are sure to find something to celebrate during this milestone event.
