•This summer, Bradford will come alive with creativity and excitement as the Bradford Festival returns for a weekend of spectacular outdoor arts. Scheduled for Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July 2026, the festival promises to be a thrilling experience for families, friends, and visitors of all ages. With over 100 talented artists from around the world participating, this free event will showcase a vibrant mix of circus acts, street theatre, dance, and family entertainment, all set against the backdrop of Bradford's city centre.
Exciting Performances
The festival will feature a variety of performances that are sure to captivate audiences. One of the highlights will be UNITY, an aerial spectacle presented by the renowned Gorilla Circus. This act combines high wire-walking, dance trapeze, and hair hanging, creating a breath-taking display above the audience. The performance will take place at Bradford's Mirror Pool, the UK's largest urban water feature, which will serve as a stunning stage for this captivating show. The immersive experience aims to engage the audience emotionally, allowing them to connect with the stories unfolding above them.
Local poet Kirsty Taylor will contribute to this event by writing a new piece that reflects the shared histories and voices of Bradford, making UNITY a celebration of the city's diversity. It is designed for all ages, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beauty and artistry of the performance.
Variety of Acts

The festival will not only feature large-scale performances but also a wide array of smaller acts and activities throughout the city. For those who enjoy hip-hop dance, the choreography piece Closer to My Dreams will be performed in the newly developed Norfolk Gardens. Additionally, the Art Doctors will roam the streets, bringing fun and creativity to those who may need a little artistic inspiration.
Families can look forward to engaging activities at the award-winning Darley Street Market, where juggling acts and a giant hopscotch board will keep children entertained. A unique dance piece inspired by local pubs will also be featured, bringing a mix of humour and rhythm to the festival atmosphere.
International Flair
The Bradford Festival will showcase talent from around the globe. The Spanish street arts company Sound De Secà will present a fusion of music, dance, and theatre, while French performers will offer a promenade piece exploring perceptions of old age. From Indonesia, Gigi Art of Dance will present a performance that celebrates connections and cultural conversations.
In another exciting performance, Seeta Patel Dance will adapt Stravinsky's iconic ballet The Rite of Spring using the traditional Indian dance style of Bharatanatyam. This blend of cultures and artistic expressions will provide festival-goers with a rich and diverse experience.
Interactive Activities for All
Not only will there be performances, but the festival will also host various interactive activities. Attendees can participate in printing workshops, explore a bus full of books, and enjoy pop-up performances featuring whimsical characters like dragons on bikes and foxes on scooters. A music stage will showcase emerging talent from the Bradford district, turning Centenary Square into a lively dance floor.
Community Involvement
Creative Director of Bradford Culture Company, Shanaz Gulzar, expressed her enthusiasm for the festival:
“We’re excited to announce the first major event in our summer programme, creating more opportunities for people to come together and get involved with culture in our city and district.”
She emphasised the festival's role in continuing to make Bradford a vibrant hub for culture and creativity.
Furthermore, Cllr Andrew Judson, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth, highlighted the importance of such events in demonstrating Bradford's commitment to cultural regeneration:
“Events like these are what we mean when we say Bradford is open for business.”
This festival is a significant step in building a legacy from the city's recent designation as the UK City of Culture.
