Middleton Railway is bringing the sights, sounds, and flavours of Yorkshire back to South Leeds this July with the return of its much-loved A Taste of Yorkshire Festival, running Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July 2025.

Following a successful debut last year that drew over 800 visitors, this unique event blends local food and drink, live music, children’s entertainment, and the unforgettable experience of riding a heritage steam train – all set at the world’s oldest railway run entirely by volunteers.

One of the highlights? A ride behind the brewery locomotive ‘Courage’, a working steam engine that’s become a festival favourite. Alongside the historic setting and train rides, visitors can browse over 20 independent stalls offering everything from handmade spice blends and Indian street food to cupcakes, dog treats, gifts and locally pressed juices.

New for 2025 are sugarcraft demonstrations, showing off the delicate art of sugar flower design, and appearances from local authors sharing stories inspired by Yorkshire’s rich heritage.

There’ll be something for everyone:

  • Steam train rides throughout the day
  • Live performances and a pint for the grown-ups
  • Storytelling and kids’ activities for the little ones
  • Free entry to the festival (small fee for train rides and museum access)

As well as serving up a brilliant day out, the festival also helps raise vital funds for Middleton Railway, a registered charity that has preserved and operated locomotives in Leeds since 1758.

“The event is about more than just trains,” say organisers. “It’s a celebration of Yorkshire food, people and history. We’re proud to host something that brings the community together while supporting the future of this special site.”

Whether you're a foodie, a train enthusiast, or simply looking for a unique day out, A Taste of Yorkshire promises a weekend packed with local charm.
