Welcome to Yorkshire

•There are some things that just scream Christmas, twinkly lights, wrapping presents while a classic film plays in the background, and that magical festive feeling in the air. For millions, that classic film is Home Alone. And now, one incredibly talented cake designer from Yorkshire has brought the iconic McCallister house to life in the most delicious way possible.
Grace Hunt, the creative force behind Grace Eva Cakes in Beverley, has built a show-stopping Home Alone house cake for her annual Christmas window display. It’s not just a cake, it’s a full edible sculpture, packed with intricate detail and nostalgia that has captured the attention of Yorkshire and beyond.

A Christmas tradition with a movie makeover
In Beverley, the Christmas window reveal at Grace Eva Cakes is practically a local tradition. Over the years, Grace has stunned visitors with displays like Santa by the fireside and the unforgettable flying scene from The Snowman.
But this year’s creation, a perfect recreation of the huge McCallister family home, has taken things to another level.
The house is instantly recognisable to anyone who’s seen Home Alone, where eight-year-old Kevin McCallister is accidentally left behind while his family jets off to France. Grace has captured the film’s chaotic, hilarious spirit in cake form, tapping into a festive memory shared across generations.
The devil's in the edible details
Fans of the film have been geeking out over the tiny, hand-crafted details Grace built into the display. She even teased her followers on Instagram with:
"There are so many little details… can you spot them all?"
And what details they are. Grace has recreated iconic moments and props, including:
- The silhouette dance party in the window
- Kevin sledging down the stairs
- The Wet Bandits: Harry and Marv
- The lawn jockey statue
- Buzz’s terrifying pet tarantula
- Old Man Marley’s snow shovel
- The famous “M” on the hot door handle
- The Little Nero’s pizza delivery car
- The Wet Bandits’ plumbing van
- Harry and Marv covered in feathers
It’s not just a cake, it’s a full storytelling scene built from sponge, sugar, chocolate ganache, and a huge amount of artistic talent.
But is it really a cake?
With its scale and precision, you might assume the display is a model. But Grace has confirmed that it is entirely edible.
She posed next to the house for scale and revealed that:
- The house is vanilla sponge with dark chocolate ganache
- The Wet Bandits’ van is cake too
- The project took four weeks from sketch to completion
- The decoration alone took two solid weeks of hand-painting
She also had to consider practical challenges, like sunlight heating up the window and affecting the fondant.
Grace has promised that once the display is taken down, she’ll cut into it on camera to finally prove to any doubters that it is, in fact, a real cake.
The snowy illustrated backdrop was painted by her mother, artist Tracy Savage, making it a full family collaboration.
The reaction has been “crazy”
Grace says the public response has been overwhelming. She’s had calls from TV and radio stations, and her social media posts have blown up with thousands of comments and shares.
It’s even been shared more on WhatsApp than some Black Friday football shirt deals, and that’s saying something in Yorkshire.
One of the best surprises?
The original American realtor who sold the real Home Alone house saw Grace’s creation, liked it, commented, and reached out to her. A huge endorsement from someone connected to the film itself.
Why the Home Alone house, and why now?
Grace chose Home Alone not just because it’s iconic, but because the timing felt perfect.
"Home Alone was released the month I was born and for my Christmas window, what better occasion than 35 years of the film being out to make the Home Alone house?" she said.
"I just didn't expect the reaction I've had to it."
Grace Eva Cakes opened during the pandemic, and since then her displays have grown more ambitious each year, from reindeer to Santa, to The Snowman, to last year’s penguins on an igloo in “Christmas Chaos”.
But recreating the Home Alone house required detailed planning, tight scheduling, and huge dedication during her busiest season of the year.
The end result? A breathtaking edible landmark that has cemented Grace Hunt’s reputation as a true cake engineer and a creator of Christmas magic.
