•Ever stopped to think about where the food on your plate actually comes from? Not just the supermarket shelf, but before that. Chances are, some of the best-tasting, freshest stuff is grown or made right here in Britain. And for 25 years, one organisation has been shouting about this from the rooftops. The Love British Food campaign is hitting its big quarter-century anniversary, and it’s planning a year-long celebration of all the brilliant food this nation has to offer. It's a movement that's all about connecting people back to the land and showing some serious support for our hardworking farmers. The main event, a huge two-week party for your tastebuds called British Food Fortnight, is set to be bigger than ever.
A passion for produce
Since it all began back in 2002, Love British Food has been on a simple but powerful mission: to get more people choosing British produce. Think about it – the crunchy apples, the sweet summer strawberries, the potatoes for your Sunday roast. This campaign is a champion for the people who grow and make this amazing food. It’s about building a real sense of pride in what our country produces. The whole idea is to create a strong, healthy market for sustainable British food, which is just a way of saying food that’s good for us, good for the planet, and good for our local economy. It’s about sharing the stories behind the food, from the field to the fork. Everyone is invited to get involved, from schools and hospitals to the local pub, encouraging them to make fresh, local produce their first choice. This anniversary is a chance to fall back in love with British food, not as a thing of the past, but as a key part of our future.
For the campaign's founder, Alexia Robinson, this 25th anniversary is a golden opportunity. She says,
“This is our moment to celebrate the joy of British food, not as nostalgia, but as something full of promise. We are fortunate to have extraordinary, high quality food producers on our doorstep and I invite the nation to savour what we grow, make and cook with fresh pride.”
“We’re asking everyone to celebrate seasonal British produce, share the stories behind it and recognise the efforts of all those who champion it during British Food Fortnight.”
Getting the whole nation involved
This isn't just a small-time affair. The Love British Food campaign has some serious momentum. Last year’s National Harvest Service at Westminster Abbey saw 2,000 guests come together to celebrate our food and farmers. That feeling of community and togetherness is what this campaign is all about. And it’s not just famous faces getting behind it. People from every corner of the food industry are lending their support. This celebration aims to reach everyone.
Long-time ambassador Liz Earle MBE, a well-known author and broadcaster, is passionate about the cause.
“I’m delighted to support Love British Food as it celebrates its 25th anniversary."
“Championing fresh, seasonal British produce is vital for both public health and the sustainability of our farming communities. Love British Food has played such an important role in reconnecting people with the value of locally produced food, and it’s inspiring to see its positive influence continue to grow at such a critical time for maintaining both national food security and nutritional standards.”
What’s on the menu for 2026?
So, what does this anniversary celebration look like? It’s a year packed with fantastic events and activities designed to get everyone excited about British food. The campaign is taking its message—‘Make British your first choice’—on the road. Here are just a few things to pop in the diary:
Future Countryside: Taking place at Raby Castle in May.
The Royal Three Counties Show: This June, big names from the farming world, like Countryfile’s Adam Henson, will gather in Malvern to talk about the future of food.
Land Alive: Head to the Bath and West Showground in the autumn for another brilliant event.
Farming Training Day: A new initiative at the historic Madresfield Estate is being launched as part of the ongoing change-maker programme.
The change-maker programme is a really cool part of the campaign. It helps people in different communities learn how to source more sustainable British food, creating a ripple effect across the country. So far, 214 change-makers have been trained up to make a real difference. And during British Food Fortnight, which runs from 26 September to 11 October, things will really kick into high gear. Expect all sorts of creative food activities, from giant puddings and floating food festivals to bakery tours and farm visits. It’s all about uniting people through a shared love of great food.
A community of champions
A huge part of this movement is the support from its official retail partner, Morrisons. The supermarket is deeply involved in backing British farmers and produce. They’re running the annual Community Champion of Change competition, searching for local heroes—both individuals and groups—who go the extra mile to support British food in their community. It’s a fantastic way to recognise the unsung heroes who are making a difference at a grassroots level. The search for a community champion is a testament to the power of local action.
David Scott, Director of Corporate Affairs at Morrisons, explains their pride in the partnership.
“Love British Food does a fantastic job championing the diverse and delicious food Britain produces, and we are incredibly proud to be their official retail partner. Their work over the last 25 years has had a deeply positive impact on both producers and consumers by putting homegrown quality front and centre. We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate this 25th-anniversary milestone with the team and look forward to an exciting, momentum-filled year ahead!”
As Alexia Robinson adds, choosing local is more than just a shopping choice.
“Even in challenging times, British food is the bond that sustains our nation. Every time you choose British, you help strengthen that crucial connection. Now more than ever we need to support our farmers.”
This year is a huge celebration of everything we grow, make, and eat. It's a chance to get involved, show some love for our farmers, and enjoy the incredible fresh and seasonal food on our doorstep.
