An Absolute Masterclass in Customer Service at Waterstones Scarborough! My partner and I (the bespectacled Moomin and cat-loving chaps who visited on Sunday 22nd June) had an absolutely delightful experience at Waterstones in Scarborough today, thanks in large part to the exceptional service we received from a young woman named Lucy. From the moment we arrived, Lucy was incredibly attentive without being in the least bit pushy. She was genuinely friendly and made us feel so very welcome, creating a truly comfortable and enjoyable Browse environment. What truly set Lucy apart, however, was her remarkable ability to engage with customers. She was genuinely complimentary about our purchases, which was a lovely touch, and then went above and beyond by offering some fantastic recommendations. Based on our brief interactions and her keen observation, she accurately perceived my taste in books and suggested titles that were absolutely spot-on. Her intuition was truly impressive! This is precisely how retail service should be. Lucy provided a 10/10, fantastic service that was a masterclass in customer engagement. Waterstones Scarborough, you have a gem in Lucy! We sincerely hope her excellent skills are recognized – perhaps she could even come cover at the Doncaster or Meadowhall stores sometime! Thank you, Lucy, for making our visit so memorable and enjoyable. We'll definitely be back!

It's difficult to feel good about the new shop when you remember the glory of the old shop, which was a place where you could browse, relax, sit and read. It's not quite the Works, but far more 'pop' in content and layout (religion and philosophy section was four tiny shelves, under computer manuals). I'm sure it's all the product of us overusing Amazon. The saving grace in our visit was the young assistant who commented enthusiastically about my daughter's selection.

Great selection of books over two floors. Lots of good deals on recent releases in paper and hardback. Lovely children's department, with wide range of picture books and for more advanced readers. Good selection for young adults as well. Comfortable seats scattered through the store. Helpful and knowledgeable staff, with options for ordering books. Nice selection of cards and notebooks, as well as unusual gifts, for something a bit different.

Lovely store to pop in and browse around. Staff very friendly and helpful and care about the look of the store. Books very well looked after which is a huge bonus (it's a pet hate of mine to see damaged books that are supposed to be brand new, on the shelf in a bookstore).

Not a bad little shop for its size. It's on 2 floors. If the book isn't in stock they will order it for you. I do feel a little suffocated in there though not sure if it's the dark colours and the amount of displays etc. Unfortunately if I need a book and don't need it on the same day you can usually find it cheaper elsewhere but then that's not supporting the high street which I try to do as often as possible.
