A day of rugby for all: the inclusion day schedule
The Inclusion Day festivities kick off with a range of matches and festivals, showcasing the talents and enthusiasm of various teams. The day begins at 12.30 pm when the York RI Templars, an inclusive rugby union team, take on the IGR Barbarians.
The Templars are a trailblazing team that provides a supportive environment for players of all sexual orientations, including homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual men. Founded in 2019 with the backing of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) and York Pride, the Templars have quickly established themselves in the IGR Development League North and were honoured with the Sport Inclusivity Award at the 2022 York Sports Awards.
The IGR Barbarians, an inclusive team composed of players from various clubs within the Northern League, will be their opponents. The match promises to be a showcase of skill, sportsmanship, and the inclusive spirit that both teams embody.
Wheelchair rugby festivals: a chance to see the future stars
While the action on the main pitch unfolds, the Sports Hall will host the Wheelchair Junior and Senior Festivals from 10.45 am to 2 pm. This event provides a fantastic opportunity to witness the talents of both junior and senior wheelchair rugby players.
With a seating capacity of 212, the Sports Hall offers an intimate setting for spectators to enjoy these fast-paced and competitive matches. Admission to the Wheelchair Festivals is free, making it an accessible and exciting event for all.
Learning disabilities rugby league: showcasing skills on the astroturf
From 1 pm, the Astroturf pitches will come alive as the York LDRL (Learning Disabilities Rugby League) team showcases their skills. This team represents the club’s commitment to providing opportunities for everyone to participate in rugby league, regardless of physical or learning challenges.
