Not the sort of place I would usually go in, being more of a pub / ale drinker, but was attending a friend's birthday. Larger inside than expected with lovely decor and atmosphere. Unfortunate start when I couldn't read the pumpclip so asked the young lad at the bar what " Virtuous" was and he could only respond " beer" with a blank expression. I suspect it may have been his first night? Apart from that the service from the young ladies was excellent. Onto the drinks - one real ale, Goose Eye Chinook. In perfect condition, if a bit too dry and hoppy for my personal choice. The Kirkstall Virtuous on keg is also pale but easier drinking than the Chinook. We then went onto wine and polished off several bottles of a Chilean red which was delicious and very reasonably priced. The Tapas, again not my usual choice, was also plentiful and tasty. I think the best testament to this place is that the Spanish guy in our party is very impressed with it, and I'd certainly be happy to return.
Ordered wine here for delivery to support local businesses. Excellent choice with online ordering but you can also chat to the really knowledgeable team on the phone and get their recommendations. Great service and will definitely be using them again or visiting the shop.
I would not normally visit or rate a wine bar being a real ale drinker but Boothroyd noticed they had one handpump serving Goose Eye Brewery Chinook. For my wine drinking better half it was heaven. Asked for a dry rosé and offered sampler. She was thus very happy and so was Booth and I. Entry via a fire door so we were a little confused as to how to get in,..but you can get there through the well stocked shop. Pleasant airey interior. They offer Spanish tapas style food to go with the large wine selection...and a good Port selection. In the last three weeks we have been to Banbury, Bicester and Bingley. Bingley wins easily. Nice hidden snug behind the bar..home to the accessible toilet.
Fantastic hidden gem! the honey chorizo and the squid in ink from the tapas menu are out of this world! great selection/knowledge of wines as well.
Brilliant place for a Wednesday night! Popped in to catch up with a few friends and it was the perfect place for that. We had some great gins & wines, followed by a brilliant coffee & churros. Brilliant atmosphere and the live music was great as well, would really recommend.
