Welcome to Yorkshire

|Get ready for some brilliant news if you've missed having a proper cinema trip in Castleford. The big screen is officially making a comeback at Xscape Yorkshire, with a brand-new Vue cinema opening its doors on Thursday, 28th August. This isn't just any old cinema, though. It’s packed with seriously cool tech, comfy seats, and a whole new way to grab your popcorn. To celebrate the grand opening, there's a massive family event planned with special guests, fun activities, and even film screenings for just a quid.
A grand opening with a sporty twist
To kick things off in style, the new Vue is throwing a huge party on its opening day, 28th August. Between 10 am and 2 pm, the cinema is teaming up with Xscape Yorkshire and the local rugby heroes, the Castleford Tigers, for a proper family event. It sounds like the place to be for anyone looking for some top-tier entertainment. Imagine this: you could be meeting JT, the official mascot for the Castleford Tigers, and even a couple of the players. There will be a rugby scoring game to test your skills, and you might even snag some free match tickets. It's a great way to combine the love of film with local sport.

And what's a celebration without some treats? There will be samples of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and F’Real milkshakes doing the rounds, giving everyone a taste of what’s available inside. But the main event has to be the special £1 screenings. These are on a first-come, first-served basis, so you'll need to be quick. Booking online gets you the £1 ticket price, but if you buy it at the cinema, it's £2. The special screenings offer a fantastic chance to check out the new venue without breaking the bank. Here's what's on the schedule for the day:
- Bluey Let’s Play Chef at 10:05 am and 11:45 am
- Cbeebies Musical: The Great Ice Cream Hunt at 10:10 am
- Madagascar at 10:30 am
- The Dark Knight at 07:15 pm
Chris Musgrave, the General Manager of Vue Castleford, is clearly excited about the partnership. He said:
“What better way to mark our first day in Castleford than to partner with its fantastic local rugby team. We hope to see lots of families along to celebrate with us. There will be the opportunity to pose for a photo with JT and the Castleford Tigers players and the exclusive £1 screenings will be scheduled during the day. We advise customers to book these via the website to get the special £1 rate, and we anticipate they will sell out quickly.”
More than just a cinema seat
This new Vue in Castleford is only the second one in the entire UK to feature something called EPIC by Vue. So, what does that actually mean? Basically, it's a massive upgrade to the whole cinema experience. The EPIC screen is the biggest one in the building, using a brand-new HDR By Barco 4k laser projector. In simple terms, that means the picture quality is ridiculously good – the colours are brighter and more vibrant than anything you've seen before. It’s like the difference between watching a video on an old phone and seeing it on a massive, super-sharp telly. And then there's the sound. The EPIC screen comes with Dolby Atmos, which is a game-changer for audio. Instead of sound just coming from the sides of the room, it comes from all around you, including from above. When a helicopter flies overhead in a film, you'll actually hear it above you. It makes the whole thing feel incredibly real and pulls you right into the action. It's one of those state-of-the-art facilities that makes the big screen so special. Alongside the giant EPIC screen, the cinema has 13 other screens. And the best bit? Every single one of them features Vue's luxury VIP seating. No more fidgeting in an uncomfortable chair for two hours. These seats are designed for pure comfort, letting you properly relax and enjoy the latest blockbusters on the large format screen. It’s all about creating the ultimate leisure experience.
Snacks, your way
Everyone knows that cinema snacks are a massive part of the fun, and Vue is changing how you get them. The new cinema introduces a brand-new retail concept called Vue Your Way. It’s a pretty neat idea that gets rid of the long queues at the counter. Here’s how it works: you scan your ticket, and then you're free to wander around the food and drink area a bit like you would in a shop. You can pick up your popcorn, grab a drink, choose your favourite ice cream, or make a milkshake. Once you’ve built your perfect movie-watching snack pile, you just head over to the self-checkout to pay. It’s quick, easy, and means more time to get settled before the film starts. This freedom is what makes the Vue Your Way system so appealing, offering a much smoother start to your cinema experience.
What the bosses are saying
It’s not just the film fans who are buzzing about this. The team behind Vue and Xscape Yorkshire are incredibly proud of the new opening. Chris Musgrave from Vue added: “But you don’t need to have a £1 screening ticket to enjoy the fun, you can still take part in our activities and we’ll also have a fantastic array of blockbusters including Caught Stealing, The Fantastic Four: First Steps and a special 50th anniversary screening of the original summer blockbuster, Jaws. We look forward to opening our doors and ensuring locals have the best big screen experience during their visits.” Jason Warren, the Centre Director at Xscape Yorkshire, shares the excitement. “We’re delighted to welcome film lovers back to Xscape with the arrival of Vue. We know just how much the big screen has been missed in the area, and with Vue’s state-of-the-art facilities, including their new EPIC by Vue experience and VIP seating, visitors can now enjoy the latest blockbusters in truly spectacular style.” He continued, saying, “As one of Yorkshire’s leading leisure and entertainment destinations, we’re passionate about creating unforgettable days out – from high-energy activities and family dining to now, the ultimate cinema experience. Vue’s opening is an exciting new chapter in our mission to make Xscape the go-to destination for family fun, thrills, and lasting memories, all under one roof.” It sounds like this new cinema is a perfect fit for the amazing entertainment already on offer at the centre.
