|Ever had a song pop up on your phone and then, bam, it's stuck in your head for a week? There's a good chance that lately, that song was by Royel Otis. This Australian indie duo has been pretty much everywhere, thanks to some massive viral hits. And now, the indie sensations are bringing their soaring melodies and incredible live energy all the way to Yorkshire for a huge headline show. That's right, Royel Otis are set to play in Halifax at the iconic Piece Hall next summer, and it's shaping up to be one of the must-see gigs of the year.

Who are Royel Otis anyway?
So, who are these guys? Royel Otis is an Australian indie duo made up of Otis Pavlovic and Royel Maddell. They got together back in 2019 and pretty quickly became one of the most talked-about new bands on the scene. Think catchy guitar riffs, dreamy vocals, and tunes that just make you want to get in a car and drive with the windows down. Their debut album, PRATTS & PAIN, was a massive hit with critics and fans, pulling in over half a billion streams. That’s a lot of listens. They’ve managed to build a huge following by just making brilliant, feel-good music that doesn't sound like anyone else.
These two aren't just making noise online; they've been selling out tours across the UK, America, and Europe. Their sound is a bit sunny, a bit fuzzy, and completely infectious. It's the kind of music that works just as well on a festival main stage as it does through your headphones on a rainy Tuesday. The band's incredible success is a testament to their unique style and songwriting talent, solidifying their place as true indie sensations.
From TikTok fame to the big stage
It's one thing to have a successful album, but Royel Otis went to another level. Their rise to global fame was kicked into high gear by a couple of seriously brilliant cover songs. First, their version of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s classic ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ absolutely blew up. It went to Number 1 on the US Alternative Airplay Chart and earned them a gold-certified single in Australia. It was one of those moments where everyone, from your little cousin to your mum, seemed to know the song.
But they didn't stop there. Their next cover, a beautiful take on The Cranberries’ ‘Linger’, became a global phenomenon. It created a storm on the internet, racking up over a billion views on TikTok. A billion. It’s hard to even get your head around a number that big. Add to that 20 million YouTube plays and 100 million streams, and you can see why this indie duo is such a big deal. These weren't just covers; they were clever reinterpretations that introduced a whole new generation to classic tracks, all while showcasing the band's unique sound. These fantastic viral hits have made them a household name.
What to expect from the Halifax headline show
So, what's on the cards for their big headline show in Halifax? While the viral covers are amazing, Royel Otis have a whole catalogue of their own brilliant songs. Fans heading to The Piece Hall on Thursday, 25 June can expect a setlist packed with originals that first built their loyal fanbase. Get ready to sing along to tracks like ‘Sofa King’, ‘Oysters In My Pocket’, ‘Kool Aid’, ‘Foam’, ‘Moody’, and the absolute tune that is ‘Car’. It’s their first-ever appearance in the stunning open-air courtyard, so it’s bound to be a special one.
The duo is known for its magnetic live energy, creating a proper party atmosphere wherever they go. It’s all about good vibes, great music, and having a brilliant time. Tickets for the Royel Otis show go on sale at 10am on Friday, so it's a good idea to be ready. This will be an unforgettable night of music under the summer sky. What's The Piece Hall all about?
For anyone who hasn't been, The Piece Hall is a bit special. It's a Grade I listed building in Halifax, and it’s actually the only remaining Georgian cloth hall in the entire world. It first opened way back in 1779 as a place to trade huge rolls of woollen cloth. Imagine a massive, beautiful courtyard surrounded by galleries, buzzing with merchants. Today, it has been transformed into a stunning cultural venue with independent shops, cool bars, and amazing restaurants. The open-air courtyard provides a unique theatre-like setting for live music.
The summer concert series is sponsored by TK Maxx, a retailer famous for offering designer and branded merchandise at great prices. This partnership helps bring world-class live music to this historic location, creating an experience that's both modern and steeped in history. Seeing a band with so much fresh live energy like Royel Otis in a place with so much history is going to be pretty special. It's a perfect match of soaring melodies and historic architecture.
