|The Deep in Hull is set to host the UK’s biggest family water safety festival, ‘H2O Heroes’, from 23rd to 31st May 2026. This exciting event returns for its fourth year, bringing together families and rescue organisations for a week of fun and vital water safety lessons. With the summer holidays approaching, this festival aims to educate visitors on how to stay safe around water while enjoying interactive activities.
Water Safety Learning Experience
During this unique festival, attendees will have the opportunity to learn from some of the country’s leading rescue organisations, all gathered under one roof. The Deep has partnered with several groups, including:
RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution),
HM Coastguard, Humber Rescue, Humberside Police Marine Protect Unit
Hornsea Inshore Rescue
Humberside Fire & Rescue.
Visitors can expect a variety of activities designed to engage and educate. Highlights include:
Meet real-life heroes: Families will have the chance to interact with rescue personnel who work tirelessly to keep people safe.
Hands-on activities: Children can participate in practical demonstrations and learn important skills.
Outdoor displays: There will be vehicles and boats on show, giving visitors a closer look at the equipment used in rescue operations.
Dress-up opportunities: Kids can try on lifeboat crew uniforms, adding a fun element to the learning experience.

John Andrews, Head of Operations & Guides at The Deep, expressed the importance of this event:
“We’re pleased to be partnering once again with these amazing rescue organisations, working collectively to spread an important message ahead of the busy summer holiday period about water safety to such a large audience.”
Sharing Lifesaving Messages
The festival is not just about having fun; it focuses on sharing crucial safety messages that can help prevent accidents around water.
Liam Fayle-Parr from the RNLI highlighted the importance of learning simple lifesaving techniques, such as how to float on your back if you find yourself in trouble:
“It’s also a great opportunity for people to have fun, dress up as lifeboat crew and learn about water safety in an engaging, memorable way.”
Sarah Wilkinson, Head of Prevention at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, added that water safety awareness is critical, especially in areas with many natural water bodies.
“Even the strongest swimmers can be endangered by the unseen hazards and cold-water shock. It’s crucial that people know what to do in an emergency.”
Community Engagement
The H2O Heroes festival aims to engage the community and encourage families to think about water safety. Yusef Forster from Humber Rescue noted,
“Events like this are a fantastic opportunity to engage with families and young people in a fun, accessible way while sharing important water safety messages. If even one person leaves The Deep knowing what to do in an emergency, or how to stay safer around water, then the event has made a real difference.”
The festival is designed to be both educational and enjoyable, ensuring that families leave with valuable knowledge that could potentially save lives. The collaboration between various emergency services showcases how they work together to keep communities safe.
David Barrass from the Humberside Police Marine Protect Unit said:
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to show how all our emergency services work together to keep our communities safe around water.”
No Extra Cost for Fun
One of the best aspects of the H2O Heroes festival is that it is included in the standard admission price for The Deep, meaning that families can enjoy a full day of activities without any additional fees. Every paid ticket to The Deep also serves as an annual pass, allowing for repeated visits throughout the year. As the event approaches, pre-booking is highly recommended, especially during the busy May half-term holidays. This ensures that families can take full advantage of the exciting activities and learning opportunities available. With the festival just around the corner, families in Yorkshire and beyond have a wonderful chance to enjoy a fun-filled week while learning how to be safe around water. The H2O Heroes event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all ages, combining education with entertainment in a way that resonates with the community.
