|Something pretty big is happening over at The Hut in Airedale. Starting this September, this local space is kicking off a whole new chapter. It's getting a massive refresh, with a brand-new programme of events and activities designed to bring everyone in the community together. Forget dusty old halls; this is about creating a lively, vibrant space where people can connect, have some fun, and maybe even learn something new. Wakefield Council has been busy working behind the scenes with a bunch of local groups and organisations to make it happen. The goal? To turn The Hut into the go-to spot for the whole Airedale community.

A real hub for the community
The partnership between Wakefield Council and other local organisations means there's a huge mix of expertise and passion being poured into The Hut. Councillor Margaret Isherwood, who is the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, is clearly thrilled about what's coming. She said:
“This is a brilliant opportunity to make The Hut a real hub for the community. This space will host new groups and activities that will help people feel supported, stay active, and connect with others. It’s great to see this next chapter taking shape.”
And that really sums it up. It’s about creating a place that feels welcoming and useful for everyone living nearby.
So, what’s actually on?
Right, let's get to the good stuff. What does a "refreshed programme" actually mean? It means a packed schedule full of things you’ll genuinely want to do. The team at The Hut is excited to offer a vibrant mix of activities aimed at bringing people together. There are sessions for everyone, whether you're looking for something active, creative, or just a chance to relax and chat with others. Here are some of the highlights you can look forward to:
- Inclusive rugby sessions: These aren’t just for super-sporty types. Led by the amazing Castleford Tigers Foundation, these sessions are all about having fun and giving it a go, no matter your ability. A fantastic way to get active and learn some new skills.
- Roller discos: Yes, you read that right! Get your skates on for some classic fun on wheels. It’s a brilliant activity for the whole family.
- Family wellbeing workshops: These sessions are designed to support families with practical tips and a friendly ear. A great space for learning and connecting with other parents.
- Football and bowling: For those who love a bit of friendly competition, there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved in some classic sports.
- Crafting and games: If creativity is more your thing, there will be crafting sessions for all ages. Plus, plenty of games to get stuck into.
This is just a taster of what's to come. The whole point is to create opportunities for connection and fun.
Working together makes it better
One of the best things about this new chapter for The Hut is that it’s a real team effort. It's being delivered in partnership with lots of brilliant local groups and organisations, including the famous Castleford Tigers Foundation. Amy Hardman, the Foundation Manager at Castleford Tigers Foundation, said:
“At the Castleford Tigers Foundation, we are passionate about supporting our community. And it’s brilliant to see The Hut become more opened up, and a true community facility. We are really looking forward to running some activities from The Hut, which has some fabulous facilities that will benefit so many local people.”
This exciting new chapter for The Hut is launching this September, and it promises to bring a lot of positive energy to the area.
