Very cute place with a variety of books to choose from. I usually go there with my laptop as I enjoy library spaces. You can print out your documents for a few pence and use the computers available as a guest or with your library card access code. I gave a 4 star because their computers are quite slow for me but apart from that, staff are very helpful and you can use the public WiFi as well for free.
Amuses me greatly to see that they still insist on having a staff only toilet, but no toilet for the members of the public. I remember 15 years ago, they brought in some bloke in drag and insisted all the kids stop reading and gather around. After a few minutes of listening to him say increasingly uncomfortable things and be insulted by the kids for it the member of staff present decided to let him go early. The selection of books is okay, but you can of course order books from other libraries here, so that doesn't really matter, anyway.
Overall, good library. There are some obvious limitations considering the small space. Has a decent amount of books though. Not so many desks + computers, or sockets to plug in your laptop, compared to other libraries.
This library is nothing like my childhood library from the60s which I remember as friendly, smart and engaging with clear labelling and comfort. Here the staff make no eye contact with anyone, even with the children, I have been taking my two grandchildren for a couple of years. The children’s section has nothing to entice browsing or reading. I once asked if my 3 year old could use the toilet and was told sharply there wasn’t one! I am very sad that this is what my graded children experience Susan Teggart LS64JU
Very disappointed in this library! Visited this library with 4 nursery children all under2 years of age as a learning outing for them. 2 of them children needed urgent nappy changes and when I asked the staff at the front desk if we can use there staff toilets(as there wasn’t any open to the public). They replied “No,sorry”. This really ruined the library experience for our children as we had to leave early as there was no facilities we could use to get the children clean. No consideration to younge children at all!
