Wouldn't normally travel into this part of Leeds as it's a bit out of the way, but I was in the area after dinner so tried this out. Have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, staff were polite and attentive. For a group of younger workers, this was great to see because service in takeaways and dessert parlours generally is poor nowadays. In terms of the food, 5 stars. the waffle was perfectly cooked, the milkshake was thick, and the San Sebastian cheesecake was delicate. If I am on this side of Leeds again, I will return.
Today 31/12/24 I went down to jays dessert at around 18:30 for the first time. No smile or a "Hi" "Hello" from the young teen behind the counter. I ordered a strawberry waffle, my son ordered matilda cake. Total was around Β£15.. keep in mind the young staff didn't ask if we were eating in or taking out. So we waited at the table thinking we'd be getting food on plate to eat in. Instead she put in bag and we left, I didn't say anything inside I was fuming. I got home opened up the waffle box.. it was cold disgusting and the it wasn't a full waffle meaning the base of the waffle wasn't there it must had got stuck on the machine she used plus she didn't even give a scoop of ice cream in tub which was mentioned on menu when you order it. My sons custard was missing as well from the cake he had ordered. Check out the pics of the waffle I have attached. This was my first and last time eating from this place.
The food is lovely however, there was no greeting from staff and no acknowledgement for quite some time after entering the shop. I was then served by a young girl who did not ask if I were eating in or out? She was wearing gloves from finishing the previous order and with the same gloves took my order and then with them same gloves she handled cash from me and other customers, π€’ then attempted to prepare my food without changing them fyiβ¦ this is a serious hygiene concern and completely unacceptable. The premises were also noticeably dirty, particularly the seating area, which clearly needs attention. Overall, the staff require proper training in both customer service and food hygiene!!!! Very disappointing experience despite the quality of the food.
Certain employees such as the young girl about 5β4 height mightβve benefited from being more respectful. I truly hope they reflect on their attitude as to treating everyone. Please protect our community by treating everyone fairly.
So many complications with the order, and when eventually sorted the dessert took forever to be made and the order was still wrong. When i had rang they then decided to tell me they didnt have enough stock. Crepes were cold and hard, not enjoyable. Wont be ordering again from here after the service recieved.
