Stagecoach Yorkshire Team Raises Over £750 for Cancer Research in Muddy 5K Challenge

Welcome to Yorkshire

Published on June 16th, 2026

A dedicated team of bus drivers from Stagecoach Yorkshire has taken on the Pretty Muddy 5K obstacle challenge, raising over £750 for cancer research in the process. This thrilling event, which took place recently, saw participants running, crawling, and climbing through a muddy course spanning five kilometres, or just over three miles. The team, led by Operations Manager Carol Clarke, showcased their commitment not only to fitness but also to an important cause that affects many lives.

Team Effort for Cancer Research

The challenge was not just about completing the course; it was also about coming together as a team to support a vital mission. Carol expressed her pride in the team’s achievement despite the challenging weather conditions. “We are really pleased to have completed what was a very significant challenge – particularly given the weather. There was certainly plenty of mud, but we supported each other and so we made it,” she said. The funds raised by the team will contribute to the efforts of Cancer Research UK, an organisation that plays a crucial role in the fight against cancer. Over the past 40 years, cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled, going from just one in four people surviving their disease for 10 years or more in the 1970s to two in four today. The goal is to increase this to three in four patients surviving by 2034, and Stagecoach Yorkshire’s team is determined to play their part in this vital progress.

Support from Colleagues

The challenge has not only inspired the team but also rallied support from their colleagues across the region. Carol highlighted the fantastic backing they received: “We have been inspired by how our colleagues have rallied around us to raise money to fight this terrible illness, and there is still time to make a donation.” Matt Kitchin, the Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire, praised the team’s efforts and the community spirit shown by their colleagues. “I am so proud of what the team have done, and the support that our colleagues across the region have shown them. It is a huge effort and a wonderful gesture to help a charity doing such important work,” he remarked.

How to Help

For those who would like to contribute to the fundraising efforts, there is still time to make a donation. The team’s fundraising page is available online, where supporters can easily contribute to this noble cause. The Bigger Picture

The efforts of the Stagecoach Yorkshire team reflect a larger movement within communities to support cancer research and awareness. Events like the Pretty Muddy 5K not only encourage physical activity but also foster camaraderie among participants while raising critical funds for research that could lead to breakthroughs in treatment and care. The ongoing fight against cancer is one that touches everyone in some way, whether through personal experience or the experiences of loved ones. The determination shown by Carol and her team is a testament to the power of community spirit and the commitment to making a difference. As the fundraising continues, there is hope that more teams will be inspired to take on similar challenges. With the support of local businesses and communities, progress can be made towards achieving the ambitious goal of increasing cancer survival rates.
