Yorkshire farm shops

Yolk Farm and the Minskip Farm Shop

Imagine a fresh food market right in the middle of a working farm. That’s exactly what you get at Yolk Farm near Boroughbridge. The team here grows and hand-picks all their produce daily, so everything is as fresh as it gets. It’s a brilliant destination for your Christmas shopping, with a great choice of turkeys and all sorts of festive treats. One thing to look out for is their amazing pork pie, which comes with poultry and sage stuffing and a cranberry or apricot topping.

Delicious. And, as the name suggests, this place is all about eggs. The Yolk Cafe serves them up any way you like, from a simple scramble to something more elaborate. It’s a great spot for the family too, with an outdoor pizza oven, a children’s play barn, a dog walking field, and plenty of farm animals to say hello to. It's an entire day out, not just a food shop.

Fourteen Drops Market Hall in Yarm

For those who love a bit of gourmet feasting, this destination deli is a must-visit. Found in the historic market town of Yarm, Market Hall is a haven for food lovers. The deli counter is stocked with a fantastic selection of UK cheeses and cured meats. It’s the perfect place to create a bespoke hamper, filling it with treats from all over the world.

There are posh crisps, hot sauces, cool condiments, and a huge variety of craft ales and ciders. Next door, the cafe is a great place to stop for brunch or cocktails after a bit of shopping.

Drewtons in East Yorkshire

This place really champions local. Drewtons works with over 250 local farmers and suppliers, so everything on offer is top-quality with clear traceability. Housed in beautifully restored farm buildings, it’s a place where you can easily spend a few hours.

There’s a farm shop, café, tearoom, a proper delicatessen, a butcher, a cellar, and even a luxury shopping store. The guiding principle here is all about ‘supporting the surrounding farming community, reducing the need for excessive 'food miles' and championing livestock wellbeing’. The cafe menu is full of hearty breakfasts, lovely afternoon tea options, and tasty snacks. Meanwhile, the bakery uses traditional Yorkshire recipes to create award-winning pies, pastries, and quiches every single day. The fresh food options are endless.

Fodder in Harrogate

Known as a true star of the Yorkshire food scene, Fodder showcases incredible food and drink from farmers across the region. Better yet, the profits are given back to support farmers and the countryside through the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The food hall is enormous and perfect for a weekly shop or a special occasion. You can get everything here, from the turkey and all the trimmings to craft beer and artisan gins.

The butcher team is always ready with advice, and there are often tasting sessions from suppliers. If all that shopping makes you hungry, the cafe serves up hearty pies and proper bacon butties. For those looking to sharpen their festive cooking skills, a masterclass on perfecting the ultimate Christmas spread is happening on December 4th.
