The market cross in selby is a grade ll listed monument. It has been here since 1790. The market cross marks the place where a market town has the right to hold a market or fair. The permission could be granted by a king bishop or a barron. The cross is surrounded by some modern benches.

A grade 2 listed structure, originally it was in the middle of the road but was moved into the park, it was later moved to its current location, just a few yards from its original place, great piece of history.

Normally the Monday market is in this area . clothes food plants meat hovvers book shoes fruit and veg stalls and food van for bacon butties teas and coffees .
