Ivy Cottage

Description

The route down Belle Hill which continues along Church Street was once part of the main Leeds to Kendal road. In the 17th century the two large houses across the lane were a Coaching Inn and Ivy Cottage one of its carriage sheds. Today it is double glazed with gas central heating to supplement the open fireplace. It is light and bright with a large dining kitchen and a comfortable lounge. There is a downstairs toilet, a drying area and, across the yard, a south facing garden seat.

There are three bedrooms, two doubles and one twin. All beds have pocketed spring mattresses and electric blankets and the Villeroy & Bosch bathroom a bath and separate shower. Downstairs there is an internet connection, an i-pod dock and flat screen televisions in both kitchen and lounge.

There is an extensive library of local books and maps as well as paperback fiction for those seeking to escape from TV. Details of local pubs, restaurants and places to visit are displayed in the entrance lobby and the information folders. If this is not enough the Tourist Office in Settle will be able to advise.
For the motorist, Harrogate, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are all within reach for a day’s excursion. Visitors not wishing to use their cars need not worry as the bus to Skipton terminates across the road at the bottom of Belle Hill. Local facilities abound and walking begins at the door.

This is Ribblesdale, the Three Peaks Country, with Ingleborough, Penyghent and Whernside all part of the skyline. Not far away, and not to be missed, is the Settle to Carlisle railway and its iconic viaducts.
