A Rising Star from Bradford to Hull KR
Storton's rugby league journey began in the youth system at Bradford Bulls, where he made his first-team debut in 2017. His performances quickly marked him as a player to watch, and in 2020, he made a significant move to Hull KR. It was here that he made his Super League debut, coincidentally in a match against his future club, Wakefield Trinity.
Over the years, Storton has developed a reputation as a dynamic and hard-working forward. During the current season, he has made 17 appearances for Hull KR, contributing to their successful campaign. Now, he looks forward to returning to West Yorkshire, ready to make his mark with Wakefield Trinity from 2025 onwards.
Storton's Enthusiasm for the Move
Expressing his excitement about joining Wakefield, Storton said, "I'm buzzing to sign at Wakefield for the next three years. The club is doing really good things on and off the field, and I can’t wait to get started."
Coaches' and Management's Confidence in Storton
Daryl Powell, the head coach of Wakefield Trinity, shared his enthusiasm about the new signing.
"We are delighted to add Matty to our squad for next season and beyond. As a coach, I have tried to sign him before because I love what he brings to a team. His energy is infectious, and his ability to play both in the middle unit and the back row adds great flexibility to our squad. I’m looking forward to seeing how good he can become in our environment."
Echoing these sentiments, Ste Mills, Wakefield's recruitment manager, also praised Storton's abilities and character.
"Matty will be a great addition to Wakefield Trinity. Knowing Matty for a number of years now, I know his personality will be infectious within our environment. On the field, he will be a great asset to our middle unit, with the flexibility to play in the back row. He’s an aggressive ball carrier and defender who values all the little details and effort areas within his game. So I know he will be a huge success and a favourite within the squad and the fans. We’re looking forward to welcoming Matty in for 2025 and beyond."
Sponsorship and Support
For the 2025 season, Matty Storton will be proudly sponsored by M&M Engineering. Wakefield Trinity extended their thanks to M&M Engineering for their continued support of the club, further solidifying the community and commercial backing that the team enjoys.
